Pretty astounding considering that these things weigh 5100-5300 lbs! Chrysler products were never known for being fuel efficient, but the latest Hemi with MDS does pretty decent. I tend to average around 18 overall and 20 on the highway. I've hit the advertised 22, but driving like that is way too boring.

 

I'm pretty sure the winter blends and cold weather are kicking my butt. I've been around 14 all winter. I get 17-18 in the summer. I'm watching to see if the Hypertech gets me a couple MPG, but to be honest I haven't been nice to the gas pedal since I got it installed. It launches harder and holds longer between shifts, so I've been playing with it and haven't seen crap for improvement. I'm going to maintain that it is my fault for driving it like I stole it...LOL

 

That's also been my experience in my V6 Crew and the wife's V8 Volvo XC90. Both on-board mpg calculators are off by about 10 percent. No big deal. If I want better mpg I'll drive slower or get a smaller engine next time -- does anyone still produce 1.4L 4-bangers any more? :-)

 

I wish I got 18 mpg in Houston, and how do you pull off only 15% rush hour traffic around here!!?? That's at least 40% of my commute!

 

Simple, I live 60 miles from downtown Houston and I can time my travel so that I miss rush hour in the morning or afternoon.

For those that aren't familiar with Houston rush hour......6-9 am and 3-7 pm is grid lock on Hwy 290 and between those hours it can take 2 hours to go 15 miles

There's hope for you new 2014 RT owners.

At 8500 miles something really changed. The truck almost immediately started getting 22 to 23 miles per gallon at 70 mph.

Performance also noticed changed for the better.


13,000 mile average 21 mpg on the trucks computer, I can almost get 500 miles out of an average tank if I don't get on it much

I am now convinced that the trucks CPU is pre programmed to control fuel system settings and shift patterns moderately at certain factory predetermined break in intervals. I am no engineer but would there be a benefit for Dodge running the Hemi richer for the first 8500 miles?

 

probably just summer gas. I noticed the same thing. CAI and summer gas and now I'm getting 22-23 mpg at 80 mph. 3800 miles on mine.
