Look at fuelly.com. You can sort cars by their engines. Sorting the '11 through '13 Durangos there are 18 V6's and 17 V8's. Here are the overall averages for each:

V6: 19.1 mpg
V8: 15.4 mpg

That is a huge difference. So for about $2,800 up front plus an extra $500 a year in fuel, you're talking $5,300 in additional V8 costs over 5 years of ownership. And what do you really get for it?

Don't know how the $5,300 V8 gets you extra style and handling, but..... ok!

There are trade-offs but I'm happy to pay the extra thousand a year to have the RT that I drive. I really enjoy it. it will have some additional resell value as well so it's not a complete loss on the thousand dollars per year

I agree, buy what you like. I usually always get the 'sport edition' (GT, SRT, R/T, SE, M, S, etc) of every vehicle I buy. Since there wasn't an SRT, I got the R/T. Most of the time those models have a tighter suspension, which is why I get them. You feel the road more and the ride usually isn't as nice, but I really like a tighter suspension. There is usually an increase in power at those levels as well, which is just icing on the cake. If they SRT Jeep GC would have had 3 rows, I would have bought it

I appreciate V6 owners, more available fuel for my HEMIs to consume.

Actually yes, if you owned one you would know the HEMI takes 87 as well.

87 accepted, 89 preferred
