Not a good idea, bud. If something would happen there is NO WAY Dodge would step in to "make you whole," as the lawyers say. And especially so since you've outlined how you will fix the problem on your own and also posted on a public forum a declaration of intent to ignore the company's effort to fix the problem.
That's a slam dunk for Dodge right there.
So they send me a notice for inspection for which no dealer in my area has the shield or a spare booster for that matter and your telling me that if I were to install my own " preventative device to protect their deficient design" that somehow I would be responsible for their booster failure. Not likely. I've been waiting for 7 MONTHS for a transmission line spacer (recall) on my wrangler that can cause the whole jeep to burn down at any moment but they are still on back order. You bet for damn sure I have a spacer in there of my own because THE MAN is not worried about me or my family catching fire. Again, anyone who lives in wet or snowy areas get your rig fixed ASAP. I'll continually inspect mine without any other concern.

If you don't respond to their recall notice, allow them to inspect, and give them the opportunity to repair - then they are off the hook when your brakes fail and you kill a busload of nuns, orphans, baby seals, and spotted owls. Yes, they are currently not prepared with the parts and all of the information, but I suspect they erred on the side of caution by getting the information out early (so you can respond if you've had any issues) - probably due to the recent GM recall revelations. You can bet every car company will be reconsidering recalls they have been delaying.

I would never hurt spotted owls or baby seals. Haha that's great and as for GM I came from a trailblazer SS that literally tried to kill me and my family with "unintentional braking" and GM couldn't give a crap. You guys do know that this does not leave you without brakes it only causes you to loose braking force and there aren't any accidents because of this issue that I'm aware of. That's the beauty of mechanical parts. They still will work. You can use the same argument with a bad headlight design. Whether the manufacturer tells you or not, they were the ones who designed and installed it and if it goes out and you kill a bunch of baby seals, liability falls in there lap first and then mine but only if they can provide proof that I was both notified and made a reasonable attempt to repair in a timely matter( which they can't ) according to my lawyer here in Cali, they would have to provide proof that the part was available within 7 days of notification to remove liability(been over 7 days). So even for example if I never replied to my jeep fire recall, after 7 MONTHS of no repair and posting on a million forums how I disregard all safety recalls (haha) they would still be liable. Again, take your vehicles in. I'm not worried one bit
Just called Brookdale Dodge in MN and they knew all about the recall and put my name on a list and will call me when the parts are available. Looks like they are on top of this recall. Sharp Dealer.

Nice Auggie, I suspect that they may be fulfilling dealer orders in the wet areas of the country first. Just a guess. Sounds like they are on it up there.

Dude, you are a bad luck magnet with a Jeep fire, DD tranny problems and the homicidal Trailblazer. If it weren't for the bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.
Good luck.

Almost, jeep hasn't caught fire yet because I made and installed the part that's on backorder to keep the transmission lines from rubbing which can cause the fire. The Trailblazer SS would apply full 100% braking force randomly with but a touch of the brakes. Think doing 80 on the freeway and someone merges into your lane doing 75 so you tap the brakes and proceed to stop leaving 4 black stripes on the freeway praying to God that the 20 cars behind you dont send you to the pearly gates and not being able to move the vehicle at all for up to 60 seconds. Happend 3 times in 3 months. GM says there isnt a problem.Bye bye GM
Yesterday I called to make an appointment for the fix. Dealer said they are getting two parts a week from Chrysler and scheduled me for the end of July. Not an issue since the problem occurs when the water freezes. Not likely before July.
I wouldn't say it's "not an issue". My brakes completely failed out of the blue on an 80 degree day, and could have caused a serious accident. Do not take this recall lightly...it was bad enough to force me to get rid of the Durango for the safety of my family.
Totally different problem Whiteout
All this is is a Gasket of foam that seals in the crimped seam so water doesnt sit in the groove
But I agree losing Brakes is dangerous
