Default 2012 - Extended warranty or not?

I just bought my 2012 Durango and is fresh out of bumper to bumper. In service date was Sept 11 so I do still have some 5yr/100K powertrain warranty left.

Do you guys think I should pay the piper and get a Max Care Extended Warranty or are these DD's pretty solid and worth taking the risk of no warranty for a few years? I eventually want to upgrade to a new or previous year's left over model in a couple years. I am expecting 3-4 years out of this one.

I don't really have the funds laying around to plop down on a warranty either so that is a huge factor!

Just looking for some opinions and some peer support form those that are warranty less out there!

IMO, if your only keeping it a few years, your wasting money buying an extended warranty. Of course you need to factor in how many miles you are going to put on it in those few years. If you drive like a 1000 miles a week, then it might be worth it. Do you know if it has been properly maintained during the time you did not own it?

We put maybe 10K on a vehicle per year.

I'm confused....you said you don't have the money to pay for the warranty ...so it doesn't look like you have much choice. How much did you pay for the car? If you can't afford an unexpected repair I'd say you're in a world of hurt based on my experience. Prepare to get nickle and dimed to death. If you're looking to dump the SUV in a few years I doubt the warranty will pay off regardless.

I said that I don't REALLY have the money to spend on a warranty...if I feel that it is critical to have a warranty, I could probably scrape it up or finance the Max Care for 12 months. But, if I feel that the Durango will be dependable for 3 or 4 years, it might be more beneficial to pay for repairs out of pocket and still be ahead. I know it is a gamble either way, just trying to see what you guys think based on your DD ownership experience.

Dealers make a fortune off of selling extended warranties...........there would be no such thing as an extended warranty if it actually financially benefited the consumer on average

^^^This is kinda what I am thinking myself!^^^

It's a gamble but insurance companies don't get rich from paying for too many repairs. Just like those fancy casinos don't get built from paying out too many winners!

Correct. There will be a few stories where it has helped sometimes, but the vast majority go unused or are never worth what you've paid for it. Take care of your car, have an emergency fund, pay any needed repairs out of that.
