Dealer just called me, they experienced the downshifting jolts 2 times in a short drive. Apparently there is a new TSB out to flash the computer. Who knows if this will work but its a start. Any one else with these issues please let me know. Anyone having these issues with no fix should be calling Chrysler Corp. to create a case. This will get us more exposure and hopefully attention of engineers to finally figure out what's wrong. There # is 800-247-9753

Can this thread be highlighted to get more attention??I want everyone with an R/T and having these issues to get involved here. We shouldn't settle that this is just the way it is. Thanks.

Get your truck to the dealer and give them this updated TSB software update code: 21-030-16. Funny how Chrysler doesn't let anyone know of this update. Just keep letting people think this is normal for a 50K truck to clunk when downshifting and feel like someone rear ended you. Truly amazing. Drove truck about 15 miles so far and its downshifting perfect. Will keep updated if anything changes.

I really hope some more people get involved in this thread and we get more attention from Chrysler Corp. I think this is a issue with R/T's in general and hope they will figure out how to fix.

Good info! I've been struggling with this problem for the last several months. Will try to get to the dealer with this TSB and see if they can do anything.

So another update. The TSB update they didn't help at all and seems to be driving worse even on the up shifts. Truck is back at the dealer again and this time they opening a star case which gets Corp. involved. Not sure if this is going to fix the problem. If they don’t fix it this time I will be taking legal action. I will not pay all this money for a 53K truck for it drive like ****. Something will happen I will not live with this nor keep wasting my time bringing to dealer with no resolution. My $500 Toyota Corolla shifts better then this truck. Pretty sad. I wonder if the brand news ones are experiencing these issues. Would love to hear from any 2018 R/T owners on this.

Update: just got my DD back. They replaced the transmission and performed a TCM adaptation. In the 20 minutes or so I drove it around on my way home, everything feels good. The service advisor said it's not the first one, and he thinks it's happening to more than just a few. Total time at the dealer: 26 days.

Actual text from the service order:
Test drove vehicle confirmed concern. No TCM or PCM software available. Checked fluid found trans fluid burnt and metal debris. Performed digital imaging. Needs transmission assembly per 8 speed tutorial. Flashed TCM to P#68249346AE. Performed TCM adaptation procedure. Test drove vehicle. Verified repair.

Parts:
R8271014-AA, Pkg part 21002005 MOPAR REMAN 8 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
According to RockAuto, this is a transmission rebuild kit, including torque converter

Will advise long term how this holds up.

Here's a link to the procedure.
Since each transmission is slightly different, this pre-programs the TCM to work well with the specific transmission that's being installed. Over time, it would normally self-adjust, but the dealer should be performing this procedure before delivery so it's shifting smoothly.
