And you would have seen about the same gains as well but for a fraction of the cost. It amazes me that people still want to go out and pay 300+ dollars for a dang CAI

I guess you just amaze too easily...lol

getting folks to grasp that all the marketing surrounding cold air intakes is just that, is going to be difficult.. getting folks to realize that money spent doesn't rise and fall on the same graphed curve as quality and usefulness is just as difficult..

sheeple have been herded for too long..

CIA bye it self does little to nothing, but make it a little louder and little HP. it needs other mods to go with it.

Well after a long morning of reading about and looking at all the pictures of all the mods you guys bought and created, I took my TB off to clean it and decided to go ahead and come up with something of my own. My solution just fell into my lap and could not have been any easier. I found a 3.5 inch inlet spectre cone filter, which fits perfectly over the TB. A little filter for the breather.

I got home, drilled a hole in the top (inside) of the filter enclosure and siliconed the temp sensor there. I did add about 6 inches of wire to extend the harness to the new sensor location.

I don't hear any difference in from my stock intake with k&n.

During the time I was messing around with the intake, i had disconnected the battery. I just replaced ATF and front and back Diff. fluid and wanted to clear driving history. I went for a short ride and the overhead was reading 14.6 mpg, which is unheard of for me (9 avg) because of the oversized tires. Anyhow, i will keep my fingers crossed that the reading from "above" sticks. Here are a couple of pictures, if it does not work, i'll just put all the stock parts back on

Like it was limited or something weird? huh... That's pretty interesting there, haven't seen that one yet.

Limited in power. I was going uphill, it was really windy, my windows were open and i had her mashed. Kinda strange but on my cbr, if you take the airbox off, you take away everything she has. I wish i had access to a dyno

The problem is either air turbulence, the volume of air, or both - obviously - and the pcu isnt able to make proper adjustments. Maybe a length of intake tube is desirable?

I'm pretty sure you need an intake tube. It could be because the air sensor needs time to read the air temp in the tube so the engine knows how much fuel to mix with it. Plus the vacuum or whatever it's called that happens in the tube would allow for more air to be forced through. Also you probably aren't getting enough air to the intake because it's in the least ideal location. The reason all these big name companies make their intake the way they do for our trucks is because you have access to the most and "coldest" air from behind the passenger headlight. Your engine is just struggling to get air I would say

I donno, maybe. it seems that at 80 mph there should be plenty of air in engine compartment
