I just bought an 03 Ram 1500 4x4, I have the 3.92's but want to change to 4.56's. What do I do and how do I do it? YOu have to do the front diff to right?

Are you the first owner? As far as I know 3.55's never came w/ an "anti-slip" rear, so unless you're the second owner and the previous owner had it put in it would be an open diff. It would also say anti-spin rear in the glove box somewhere if it came like that from the factory. Does your truck have ESP, the hemi should be able to spin both tires pretty easily?

You should do both the front and rear if you ever plan on using 4wd again. You would need a ring and pinion for the front and rear and a master install kit for each as well.

Default So would a stock 06 4x4 have 3.92s?

What would changing my gears really do for me?

so would upgrading to 4.10s if you only have 33s make a big difference?
- I have an 06 1500 4x4 with a 4.7 L and stock (pretty sure they are 3.92) gears

3.92's to 4.10's and you won't see that much of a difference, not worth the cost/risk of a bad install.

so what is the next size up? and what am I looking at spending? what are all the pros for upgrading my gears... I mean, is my 4.7 doing to just roll over and die one day from putting the 33s on?
I am still trying to learn all this stuff. never had this nice of a vehicle before... or the money to make it what I want... thanks for the help!!

How are the 4:88's doing?
I wish I had gone with 4:56 instead of 4:10. But I got to listening to the wrong folks and at the last minute switched to 4:10. Oh well, I guess I can swap them again like you did.

It is very responsive from idle and once you get past the high rpms, is very nice on the highway. I am still leery of getting on it now with the replacement drive shaft. That was a scary incident and could of been much worse. Still jolted about it all.

Anyway she is back at home and now i can look under and see what needs to be replaced, which right now is full piping and muffler from the ORY back.

The 4.10's worked for my old set up but i need to recover as much low end as i can in addition to getting into the power band fast as possible. The shift recovery from the 3400 stall will keep it there.
