Well mine is on its way, and wanted to know which octane of gas I should use in my truck. In North Carolina we have 87, 89, and 93 octane. So should I use 89 or 93 with the performance tune? Thanks

Run the 93 octane!
So if you don't have 91 octane you better run the 93 octane?? (91 octane is very hard for me to find and I would like to be consistent with the octane I run)
How much of a difference is there between the tunes? is the 87 much better than stock but really lacking compared to the 91?

i recently purchased a 3715 micro max tuner for my 02 5.9L 1500.
started with the 87 tune and ran a tank and a half of 93 octane through the system.
i put the performance tune on my truck and it seemed like a total turd. i put it back at the 87 tune and it really perked back up. im very happy with the 87 tune and was wondering if it would hurt running 93 octane all the time with only the 87 tune ??

won't hurt anything. but sounds like something is wrong if it runs like crap on the 91 tune. This happened to me as well, the update fixed it. but honestly, unless you floor it all the time, I don't see huge gains on the 91 compared to the 87. I might just drop back down to the 87 and save my $30 a month.

read my above post^^

but if you do feel a difference and think the 91 is better, then just run with the 93 all the time. that's what most of us on here with the performance tune do anyway, run the 91 tune with 93 octane fuel.

Why would the performance tune be lacking? and how could the 87 tune out perform the performance tune?

it shouldnt. only time this happens is when something is wrong with the tune. it's no secret that dodge has a LOT of computers they put on these trucks, and one tune won't work for all of them. So his truck may have a computer and program that the 91 tune on his programmer doesn't mesh with.

unfortunately, a 3715 is not updateable, so he's stuck with what he's got (i think).

My personal preference with the 3715 on my 5.2L was the tow tune. Not sure why or if it was just in my head, but that was the tune that I liked running with my 3715

you pretty much just re-worded my question. i guess i over explained it.

well im sticking with the 93 octane on the 87 tune, truck runs great and no complaints, just thought is was freakin weird that the performance tune was bunk.
im thinking about getting an aftermarket torque converter . im pretty sure that will help.

almost seems like the tuner messed with the shift points on the performance tune and just ,, well blah... you get what i mean. i happy with the 87 so thats where i shall stay
