guy in a miata hit me...lol
And yes, even if the car was out of control and pulling up beside you while not even being on the road, you could be ticketed as well if you had told the cop "yeah, i seen him coming". The defense should be in your case....I never seen him come up beside me. Then you wouldn't be ticketed..ever. It's all about incriminating evidence.
We're driving down a two lane road and you're behind me. You decide to pull into the oncoming lane across double yellow to pass me. You then end up hitting me. Do you honestly think i will be cited at all? There's not a single law i was breaking. Even if he did see him coming, he still wouldn't be at fault. That's like saying you hit a guy that ran a red light and you get cited.
Well if I wanted to really screw the guy to the wall, I could've had the cop file the accident report...get insurance info...make him lose his CDL and probably his job...etc.
I wouldn't be able to sleep.
I just want to have the whole bumper repainted or replaced w/ equal or better. I don't need to take it to this guy.

Like someone else said, you may feel like you're doing the right thing and being nice but next time he might kill a family of 4 and their dog all because he drives like a tard. He learned absolutely nothing from hitting you and he will do it again. Oh wait he did learn something...he learned he can get away with it. Good job man...least you got a warm and fuzzy out of it.
had a guy hit me in the church parking lot, bent the right side of the bed in, hit the back of the cab, and a couple small scratched on the door ($1400 total). I didn't even notice it, but as I was getting in the truck, guy walked up, pointed it out, and said he'd pay for everything. Was a year ago, damage is still there cuz I don't have the heart to make this guy pay for it (he's pretty broke).
but in the case of this douche that hit you, SRT bumper for sure.

Sorry to burst your police bubble but the "billy" club is a tire checker, which is a tool that truckers have used for decades to check the pressure of the inside tires and insure the safety of the general public. If you have trucks in your state then you have quite a few of these on your roads too. Something you have to remember is the difference between a tool and a weapon is intent. If I have multiple attackers I'll use anything in my means to insure my survival, better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Plus, he didn't have insurance (which is probably why he fled).
I've become hard-assed/cynical as I've got older. "People aren't forced to take responsibility for their actions, so they get away with it."
I wouldn't burn the guy, but I'd definitely make sure I was made whole to *my* satisfaction.
well "cheech" it's people like you that get a badge and give the Police a bad name...
Let's just say I SLAM on the brakes (which is what it would've taken to avoid this) the truck pulls right or left and hits someone or something and jerk face in the Miata keeps going...HMMM who's gonna be left w/ problems then, huh Arrogant "I'm from NYC" ***** wannabe cop? Oh lemme guess you'd say everyone was at fault then put your aviators back on and go beat up a 12 year old for laughing at you.
If you were a cop you would be finding stupid crap to FINE people for and probably avoid the ghetto where real crimes are happening because that would take guts...but you seem like the type that would be looking for tint violations to tack onto a 1 mph over the limit ticket...
Now the REAL cop in this situation was actually very helpful, and talked to us both w/ reason and tact...and wasn't just out to figure out who's going to pay a fine. So thank you to the REAL Florida Highway Patrol for doing a good job and not being like mr hall monitor on the internet.
Funny thing is, I'm not that mad at cheech...I just got on a roll there for a while...

Yep, that can actually happen depending on the circumstances like timing the redlight for instance...
Your obviously not officers, therefore have not been in all predicaments and studied the law. I will admit, i turn my head on a few of the non-sense charges that could have been taken in to account. I'm just stating what could actually happen. If you don't want to believe me, then silly you. There's no reason you should do something just because you think is right. It can get you nabbed for something that isn't. Your better off to ask around your locality before you make any assumptions on what is considered a weapon in your area. Some places are more lenient than others.
Billy club as a tire checker may fly in a 18 wheeler, but for 4 wheelers, get a tire pressure guage! My '08 has tire monitors in the tires so no need for anything really. Billy club doesn't check the actual pressure so it's a BS lame *** excuse in my books. Did you know you could get a ticket for too low or too high of air pressure in your tires!
The citation book is very thick. That only gets pulled out when a hit/run or high speed chase gets called in.
If you want a self defense weapon go get a 4dcell Mag Light. Those are very dangerous and perfectly legal because it is a flashlight.
Wow very informative posts!
I never said I was a City cop. Why does everyone think when someone lives in NY they are automatically from the city?
Your posts have shown immaturity to me. If your truck is pulling left or right, then you need to get it checked or you were going to fast to begin with. What if you did have to slam on your brakes for what ever you would call an emergency stop...You should have control of your vehicle the entire time. If you hit someone, you are at fault regardless. Saying that statement tells me your very argumentative on every subject imaginable. It's only guys that act like you on this thread who I give a real hard time to. not the honest guy who makes a mistake that all of us could have made.
Tint violations are only for those who I cannot see through the glass. if the glass is so dark where i can't see an outline shadow in broad daylight. That's a ticket. Gotta see your shadow. That means most under 20% get nabbed and usually only if they are acting suspect or driving stupid. Speeding depends on the area. 6mph+ over in a school zone when kids are walking is grounds for a citation in my books. Usually 11mph+ in any other areas.
