Hi all,
Just an update... my 2005, QC, Hemi, 4X4 is now up to about 1,800 miles. I'm now easily getting combination 14.5 - 15.0 mpg. Running shell 87 and I switched it over to Mobil 1, 5-20 synthetic oil last weekend.

I haven't driven my stock 04 3500 CTD, 6spd yet (Army stuff, I'll be back soon), but my father takes it to work sometimes and he gets almost 20mpg (6100 miles on the odometer). I don't know how he does it, but he also gets 26mpg in his 01 vette too!
DAGS,
I believe the Cummins will get you upwards of 20mpg, but not with 4.10gears!
A cummins with 4.10s = hell of a work truck
A cummins with 3.73 = great work truck with good mileage.
My dad has a 04 3500 with a chip and intake turning 430hp with 3.73 gears. When pulling a 28ft 5th @ 19,000lbs combined wt will get between 8-10mpg. It gets thirsty, but doesn't skip a beat.

whats your old mans rpm's at 70mph? mine with 4.10s is about 1900, I haven't gone on any road trips, most of my driving is in town, some 10-20 mile hwy and some freeway. last tank or half a tank (I try to say half is mt, easier on the wallet) thats was all in town except with on short 25mile hwy 60mph and back I got . 276miles on 16 gallons. manually calc to 17 mpg tank avg. on the little trip computor said 20mpg out had 4 wheeler in truck about 300lbs and 200lbs or so of mulch. figered about 500lbs plus two people. I came back and reset comp no mulch just 4 wheeler. 2 people and said 23mpg. I'm really happy with that. my Dakota 4.7 averaged same driving. 13. If i loaded the fourwheller or sled in the Dakota I was in the 10-14 hwy trip. and she was always shifting. New ram never shifts. just boosts. the true test is yet to come. tring to plan a road trip. and looking for something heavy to haul. later Dags
