I guess it's different if you live in a nicer climate than Alberta. Where I live you NEED 4x4 to get out of the driveway. Hell our snowplow service is so terrible sometimes it's a month before my road gets plowed out... a 4x2 truck is useless many months of the year.
And lifts definately do help offroad, the lowest point on my truck is under the transfer case. With bigger tires and a lift my 4x4 truck can go through a lot more than a stock 4x2 ram

I know this guy who lives on a farm adjacent to my buddies grandparents farm where I do a good bit of fishing (40 acre pond) and some deer hunting. He has an older Furd diesel 4x2 (early '90s) and is an air accessory fanatic. He's got a compressor and a good size tank on board and an Air Locker in the rear diff.
He'll go ALMOST every place I can get through when hog hunting. His biggest issue isn't getting through the mud, it's the weight of the front heavy diesel engine that'll bog him down more than anything else...

theres no argument that a 4x4 will go through more mud. With stock tires I almost got stuck in wet grass one time. OP hasnt said anything since the opener btw lol.
I know I got my truck because it was the only black 1500 QC they had that day, except one ST. I got car buying fever and got it the day after i looked at it. Two weeks later they had a 4x4 hemi and it was only $1500 more than my truck. Sometimes I wish I had the 4x4 hemi and sometimes I dont really care. This thing is paid off and if I NEED 4x4 ill just go get one after i get back outta school in Dec. For now I have toys with 4wd
