8 hour tow ... anything to know ??
Possibly going to make a 8 hour trip from illinois to arkansas pulling a 67 mustand on a car trailer. i have a 04 65,000 mile 4x4 with 20 in rims and a hemi , is there anything that i need to know or can look over before i get ready for this trip?? im want to make it as painless as possible ! do i use the tow /haul button ? and then gas will probably suck ! got to love a hemi ! anybody let me know ! i will take all the input i can get ! thanks guys .
i did the plugs just about 2 months ago so those are fresh ! i have a trailer brake controller but the trailer doesnt have electric brakes , they work when the trailer is slowed it applies force and the brakes apply on the trailer . its going to be all highway and should be preaty smooth ride .
Those are called surge brakes and only utilize a 4pin connector. Not optimal, but they are certainly fine. All uhaul car transport trailers are surge brakes.
I would do the differential out of anything. That would be my first priority. Throw in 2qts of 75w-140 Synthetic and a small tube(4oz) of friction modifier. The fluid level should be 1/2" below the fill hole and everything above will get you exactly where you need to be.
Tranny fluid would be nice to have done, but it's not super critical. Def should have it flushed soon though.(17qts of ATF+4)

One more thing is to always look ahead and plan for what you see down the road. You won't be able to stop as fast as normal. When you stop before you park look for the way you are going to exit. That will help you stay out of tricky situations.
I agree with what That1guy said about the tranny. That is what I always do. Just pay attenssion your tranny will tell you what you need to know. If it is hunting and swithching gears often then engage tow/haul. And if you get into a tricky back up situation reguardless if you have a spotter ot not get out and take a look. That way you will better understand what the spotter is tring to get you to do.
