Default cold air intake and performance chip....

I am thinking of getting a CAI and im just curious what is the beat brand for the money I want to spend ... I wanna spend know more than 250$...

Also what is a good performance chip that is reasonably priced or cheap as I should say and is a performance chip even worth buying?

Make one, you'll spend about $20 in materials plus the cost of your filter choice (anywhere from about $15-35).

Unless you drop big bucks on a TRUE CAI (like the Vararam) any difference between a home-made, fleabay or a brand name one will be minimal and only be told on a dyno. Although some of the fleabay ones are of dubious quality and tend to fall apart.

Use the $ you save by making your own and put it towards a GOOD programmer like a Superchips or Diablo...

So it would be pointless to buy a k&n ? I wouldn't even know where to begin on making one. Unless there is a vid or something somewhere

this looks pretty good and i think that i could do that ... but my only concern would be how to fit the sensors in the pipe... i wouldnt know how to do that without messing it up probably

so basically ... if i bought the K&N or another brand like a spectre or a volant, I would see the same gains in HP and MPG and SOUND as I would see if I made one?

The sensors are easy. I just drilled a hole in the pvc and put a rubber grommet in the hole and shoved the air intake temp. sensor in the grommet and siliconed around it to make sure it had a good seal. You can get the grommets at any auto parts store. I have about $50.00 in mine including the K&N drop-in filter.

Yeah, I get a six pack of the grommets at Home Depot for like $1.99, they have a groove in them so they snap right into the hole, but I hit 'em with the PVC glue since I have it out to connect the elbows to the straight PVC anyway, but silicone will work too. Just don't plug the sensor in until the glue is dry, you foul a sensor and it's to the auto parts store for a new one...

It wouldn't put out any more emissions than a store bought one, but I believe in CA. it wouldn't pass, I am almost sure anything you add there has got to have a CARB certification stamp...
