Check engine light came on a couple days ago. Got the code read and it said EGR valve failure. Removed it, used carb cleaner and managed to clear most of the carbon I could. Reinstalled with new gaskets and seals. Engine light still on. Any advice?

 

did you reset the computer. Believe its disconnect the battery and pull the fuse for the ecm. i think its like 33 or 35 but im not to sure have to check.

 

I'll try that. In the owners manual it says it may take driving it around for the truck to realize it no longer has an issue. Thanks for the info. I'll look into the fuse#

 

you should reset the computer after you do any thing like that even after a tune up (spark plugs, sensors throttle body cleaning.)

if it comes back on might be time to replace it.

 

I've never had much luck cleaning one, best I've ever done was to buy about a month without a CEL. For the $30 bucks they cost in the auto parts store, I'd just replace it...

 

Please excuse the ignorance but what's a CEL?
