Default Magnaflow Y

I am 99% sure I am going to swap out my OEM y and have a Magnaflow y welded in and I was just wondering if there are any drawbacks or negatives to having this done. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know personally but I haven't heard one bad thing that can or has come from doing it. I'm just waiting until I do all of my exhaust to go through with it so i dont have to pay for welding more than once

Yea I wish I had just had it done when I had my Magnaflow muffler put on. But I was new to the exhaust mod scene and hadn't heard too much about swapping the y pipe out.

Which specific Y-pipe do we need? I am on summitracing looking right now. I am just going to run single 3" exhaust with a Flowmaster 50 series.

This is the one I think I need:

I am considering this swap as well. I already had a shop make me a custom in front of the tire cat back. Basically the cut right behind the muffler or resignator (cant remember which was closer to the cab) and welded in a single in/dual out muffler. Have duel out one side in front of the tire.

Can I still install the Y? Do you keep the cats with the Y? To install is it nothing more than just splicing the Y into whats already there?

Yes the y is installed behind the cats. The Magnaflow y is said to be considerably less restrictive. And yes you just have to have the old y cut out and the new y welded in.

Maybe I'm not that bright. Is the restrictive part of the stock exhaust directly between the Cat and the manifolds? That's what it sounds and looks like. I just need to know prior to cutting this off and adding the Magnaflow.

From what I've read it's the crimping on the stock setup that sucks. My pipes coming off of the actual manifolds do not have any crimps in the bends.

It's not the bends in the pipe but rather it's inside the factory y where the crowding is, just do it you won't regret it, best bang for the buck.

Okay, thanks. Looks like I may be welding on some new exhaust when I get home. Having a welder is pretty handy.
