If it looked like this, then yes, it's it.

As for mine, half a tank is just over 16 gallons. You can't over add so just put 2oz to a tank if you're worried. I've got a 35 gallon tank and I've rarely gone over 32 gallons in one fill-up.

From their website:

Q. Can I add too much Star tron to my gasoline or diesel fuel?

A. No, you can not overdose your fuel with Star tron. If you add too much of the Star tron product to gasoline or diesel, no problems will be encountered.

Well first tank done and gone I got 13.9 hand calc and my overhead console said 14.5. I would say about a 1 mpg to 1.5 gain, and I don't think it is as high as I get on just plain 87 with no ethanol. This is my normal drving schedule, so about 70% highway and 30% city. My truck is a fuel sucking pig in town, on the highway I can get 16 mpg. I have 3.73 I have heard the 4.10 are a lot better for this.

I will run 3 more tanks trough with the 89 10% ethanol, and post my results each time. Then I will run a tank of 87, and see what I get.

By the way why does my hemi run about 1,500 rpm when I first start it for about 2 min or so. Man this burns half a tank alone! What is the deal? Once the truck is warmed up it will not do this. My overhead console MPG will drop .2 mpg every time I start this thing if is has cooled off while I wait for the RPMS to drop to about 800.

I just ran up the coast the other day and had to gas up first. Did a little surf fishing and the county where I live doesn't allow driving on the beach anymore (thanks to some stupid a$$ sheriff patrol deputy running over a sunbather!). So I had to run about 45 miles north to go to a beach I could drive the truck on.

Round trip was a little over 100 miles, obviously I didn't top it off when I got back so going strictly by the overhead I got this - 75% interstate and 55 mph limit 2 lane open highway, 25% rural town type driving with a few stop signs/lights here and there. Keep in mind when I hand calc that my overhead is usually about 2 or 3 tenths of a mile "optimistic".

That's 93 octane on SC 91 Performance Tune on a truck that weighs in at 7000 lbs. I'm not displeased with that.

BTW Evan, watch that 87 octane. I know "the book" says 87 octane is ok, but 89 octane is recommended but I find MOST people with a major cylinder or multiple cylinder failures with Hemi engines have admittedly run 87 octane fuel predominantly. Lots of threads on this HIGHLY DEBATABLE topic...

Agreed. After hearing about the issues with 87 in this truck so much i asked the Service guy at my local dealer when i was int here recently having some work done. And he said they have seen issues with 87 octane doing damage. Mainly doing damage with excess carbon build up from detonation.

Oddly enough, when i googled issues with 87 Octane in these trucks i found this thread from this forum:

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...i-trouble.html

And that thread has a great example of why nobody should have these issues in the first place. *******ly every gas station i stop at in New England has a difference in price between 87 Octane and 89 Octane of about 10 cents. So on a tank of gas, it's a difference of $2.60 for an entire tank full. That's it. So anybody who runs 87 instead of 89 in thier Rams for the reason that it costs less is (in my opinion) making a very stupid choice. You are not even saving enough money to buy one extra gallon of 87.

I could understand the logic of someone arguing using 87 over 89 because the difference was over $1.00 per gallon. But 10 CENTS? Come on. You are telling me that paying 10c more per gallon and eliminating the risk of Detonation and other engine damage is not worth it to you? Even more mind blowing is the fact that i have heard people who run 87 "because it's cheaper" using Royal Purple Synthetics (which cost more then almost any other synthetic) because "they want the best protection" for thier truck.

Fuel and engine oil are the two simplest ways to keep these trucks running for a LONG time. You chould not skimp on either one.

I purchase and use star tron now also, it has helped.

Be aware when buying though, Walmart and Autozone sell the same size bottle, but the Autozone bottle only treats half as many gallons and is only a dollar cheaper.

I searched amazon for the gallon size. It is 97$ shipped. THat will effectevily treat 2200 gallons. Should be about 40,000+ miles. That goes a long way.

Just my 2 cents

This has been a topic that I've gotten into some VERY big debates about on this site, especially in the 4th Gen section - there are a LOT of 87 octane users there that take it down right personal when you mention using 89 octane - and they reprint the stupid page out of the manual that says "87 octane ok". Then of course there's the post by the one odd guy with 150k miles on his Hemi who has never run anything but 87 octane. So I'm done arguing and posting pics of failed engine internals and testimonials by guys who used to run 87 and now agree they should have paid an extra dime for 89 octane.

While buying it in gallon size may save you a few bucks, my issue is having to now keep that gallon container around. I am going to finally buy some today, but i am going to opt for a smaller container i can keep in my truck so it's always there when i get fuel.

I have never run 87 in my Dodge and never will. I run 91 or 93 now with the tuner and add Star tron. Never been happier.

Maybe from now when a new post pops up involving engine performance, the first question we should ask is what octane they run.

I could eat strawberry cheesecake all day everyday, but it too is ok, but isnt recommended.
