Default New guy needs advice on a mods

I just got my truck two days ago and just started researching 5.7L HEMI mods. I had a 98 Jeep Wrangler so not much knowledge in the V8 world HaHa, she was a rock crawling beast though.
I want to do a K&N CAI, JET low temp thermostat, SC tuner (don't know which model would work best for me?), and 3" Rough Country lift with some 33's (need to know what gears to run, maybe 4.56's?).
I was also looking into a Hemi SOS Ignition System, any one know of this?
Not really looking to be a drag truck but would like some decent speed, maybe more towards low end.
Any suggestions on a cam or anything else I haven't learned about yet that wont cost an arm and a leg and won't have to pull the engine apart.

I am open to all suggestions.

Your in Hawaii so i'd go with a 180* t-stat.
For SCinfo, click on link in my sig. Theres prob more info than you can absorb in one reading....lol
As for the SOS ignition, Igave you the link in your other thread HERE which i just closed for duplicate reasons.
I have 33" stock size tires and 3:92 gears. I can haul just fine. If you have 3:55's I'd reccomend going gear swap if you want more snappyness.

Cam, you can use a mild cam with the Superchips. Anything aggressive and you'd have to go to the sucky Diablosport that doesnt have trans tuning or Torque management like SC does.

You would be surprised what you can soak up in one reading when you are standing duty for the Marine Corps with nothing to do but research crap haha.
I saw your other post about the SOS, yea screw that.
How can I figure out what gears I am running? Also on a side note, what model is the automatic tranny for mine?
What would be a mild cam and what would be a good company to purchase from? Cam's are brand new to me.
I think my first mod will be the SC programmer. What is the best model to get?

I've got the same truck as yours and can only comment on a few of your questions since I don't know about the rest. Your tranny is the 5-45RFE and the gear ratio should be written in the glove box. Just about certain it will be the 3.55 with the 2wd.

Now for gears, the 4.56 will definately get you off the line quickly. Traction will be your worst problem at that point. Driving around town is a whole lot more fun and if you hook up to anything, you'll enjoy the tow a lot more. I'd say 4.11 is probably more than good enough overall, but if you want some harmless fun around town, can't say anything against the 4.56. Your tire dealer will thank you for it!

Hell, I am already breaking loose on wet grounds haha. I need to get my 3" lift so I can get me some bigger tires.
I had 4.56 in my danna 44's on my jeep and that thing had some amazing torque for that engine. I think I will most likely go with the 4.11's. Anyone know what these are going for and what axle I have?

Also if a superchip is vin locked how do I go about getting it unlocked?

You are breaking loose on wet ground because it is a pickup - not enough weight in the rear end. Mine is bone stock and that happens to me at stop lights on a rainy day and I'm not even being that heavy on the gas.

The only way to take a used superchips and get it unlocked is for the original owner to take it and use it to restore his vehicle back to factory settings. The previous owner can't load a tune from it and then hand it to someone else to do the same thing.

Okay first off, thank you for your service sir. And for the mods, I say just keep it simple, I'd go with exhaust (did you mention that?), tires, keep stock gears, lift, make your own intake (it's simple), the t-stat I don't know much about but if you do that then you should get an efan. Oh yea superchips (or any tuner) is pretty nice to have as well

I was in the Pearl Harbor shopping center and right in front of everyone I turn a corner barely giving it gas and sure nuf I break loose and look like a punk a-hole haha. Everyone was staring.

I read on some other forum that Superchip (the company) can reset it online through your computer. Now I am taking this with a grain of salt because I can't find anything to confirm this. BTW anyone want to buy me a $12.00 thermostat off Ebay since they won't ship to hawaii like most other companies on there. lol

I have no doubt that they can reset it if they choose. However, that feature is there to keep 2 or more people from buying one together and using it on multiple vehicles. My bet is that they would only do it if you are the registered owner and have some sort of problem with it or maybe if you are slick enough to convince them to do it for you.

Again, it doesn't take much to break the rear end loose when you are sitting on a hemi and have no weight in the back.
