Default Thoughts on tire dilemma

I have managed to get 60k miles out from the stock wranglers and will be happy to see them go. I have a 08 1500 QC 4x4 5.7l.

I have narrowed down my search to either the Nitto Terra Grapplers or the Toyo Open Country A/T but also keeping an eye on the Cooper Discoverer A/T3. I have read that the Toyo's and Nitto's are basically the same tire made by the same company so I will keep an eye on what has the best price.

The dilemma I have is do I stay with stock size 275/60/20 or go to a 275/65/20. The truck is currently stock ride height and I believe the 65's may rub slightly on the plastic. The advantage of the 65's is that they are a E load rating but then the added weight and stiffness may be a downfall.

Is anyone else running the 65's or anyone who considered running them and chose to stick with the stock size?

I can't imagine that the 65's over the 60's would cause an issue - but maybe they will. Are you wanting an E load tire for towing? If so, I strongly recommend considering ditching the 20's and going with a 17" wheel. You will have a lot more options for tires and, thus, more capacity for towing.

I've always towed 30+ foot RV's with my truck since it was new. I also managed to get 55k out of the stock 20" HP's and they probably had a few more thousand in them when I changed them out. But I made the mistake of going with the same tire in the same size just because I was pleased with the ride and the longevity I got out of the HP's. But those tires on those rims were never going to give me back the approximately 1000 lbs of towing capacity they were robbing me of. So, this time when it was time for tires, I went with a 17", -12mm offset, 4.5" backspaced wheel with Terra Grapplers in 305/70/17, which is also an E rated tire. I had to level the front end for everything to fit but I have no rubbing at all, it looks good, rides great, and can tow my *** off.

65s should fit on stock height. I have 275/65R20 BFG T/A KOs. But I like the A/T3s personally but I don't know why. I would lump the toyo open country's, terra graps, AT3s and the Zeons as pretty much the same tire so whichever of those you can find for the cheapest in the specs you want is what i would go for. But the 20s dont make it easy. I paid a little over 1300 bucks out the door for my BFGs (thats with the alignment too)

Just to throw another option in there....we just recieved the new Open Country ATII. Updated verision of the original with a much nicer looking sidewall/tread wrap. Also reported to last about 10% longer than the original Here's a link:

I get jealous when I see tire prices from down south. Cant even come close to those prices up here in Canada. I can ship tires up for 300 or so and pay taxes and duties, negating the whole point in buying down south.

you guys are lucky

I have just ditched my wrangler HP's after 94k in favour of Cooper Zeon's 275/60/20's on my 2010 1500 I had them shipped to my US mailbox then I plan to drive down and get them fitted in the US, cheapest way to go
