I know there was a member on here that cut open his hat after he took it off and revealed all the chambers the hat uses (to muffle sound mostly) but it also causes a swirling of the air in the hat before it gets into the TB. I'm sure it doesn't affect efficiency too much but I'd just rather the air go straight into the TB

Obviously,we all know you'll get resistance all the way from the beginning of a stock intake to the hat.If you take out the box and add bigger tubing made of a polished aluminum, you will get more clean air going thru it and more air equals better performance. For my money, the little bit of gain you will get from excluding the resonator doesn't justify the cost of the big name CAI's,which is why I went with the el cheapo brand.I feel it performs as well as a Volant,K&N or others but I haven't spent the huge dollars for the name brands.Besides I kinda wanted to leave the hat on.I don't much care for the "bare wire" look.Just my 2 cents............

I agree......it would make easy access to the TB,plugs, PCV valve etc..... but I have to again default to the trade off value. For the limited amount of times you might have to get to those parts,I would prefer too keep the hat and add the few minutes it takes to remove 2 little 10mm bolts.Besides that,to get to your plugs or to clean your TB,you would (probably) remove the CAI anyhow.Unless of course you don't mind working around and/or under it.To each his own though.
