So, not to um... but if I was to cutout the stock muffler and weld on a [better] one in its place, but keep the rest of the stock exhaust, how horrible will this sound? anybody got a soundclip of this? or personal experience doing this exact thing?

There are lots of trucks with the exhaust setup you're talking about. I know the later 3rd gens had a resonator before the end of the tailpipe. You MIGHT wanna cut that off since it might do weird stuff to the exhaust note. The factory system flows pretty well right off the bat, so by putting in a muffler that actually flows well you can pick up some throttle response.

thanks, dodge dude! I guess I'll just cut off everything from the muffler back, and get a better flowing one. I just want 2 things: a) to actually be able to hear that hemi and b) for it to not sound like sh*t when the MDS kicks in.

The stock piping is 3" on these trucks, right? just wanna make sure I get the right diameter inlet/outlet. Thanks again, brother!

I think they went to 3" after 05 or something like that. Not sure, you'd just have to measure it. A turbo muffler should make the V8 sound good and quiet down the 4 banger when the MDS kicks in.

Or you could get a tuner to turn off the MDS.

A tuner will have to wait. Dodge dude, if I may ask you a question: my coworker has an '04 hemi & he's running true duals w/ twin flowmaster (i know i know) mufflers, with turn downs under the bed. Sounds really good.

Now how well do turn down's get along with MDS?

Another coworker has an '08 hemi; he's running a y-pipe, generic muffler(doesn't know what kind), with 3" pipes coming out behind each tire. Sounds bada** when he's leaving the parking lot & he says he can't really notice the MDS kicking in & out.

Guess I have too many options and just need to pick one!

Maybe I'll run sidepipes like I did on my old Camaro lol Don't wanna be like everyone else!

I would imagine the turn downs would amplify the noise of the MDS, but I don't have MDS on my truck. lol

Either way, it's going to come down to personal preference.
I think it's easier to go quieter and work your way up, then back the other direction.

ok, I think I may have found "the one" for exhaust! I found this video on youtube:

Same truck as mine, kept the cats, 3" in/ dual 2.5" out Cherry Bomb Vortex. I'm loving how it sounds.

Anybody here got this set-up?

^Sounds good, mon.

I looked it up and it's a turbo muffler, straight through with perforated pipes. So that means good performance with minimal exhaust obnoxiousness. I think you'll notice that it won't drone at highway speed, only when you get on the fuel.

Blacksport, how do you like the Magnaflows on your truck? I'm gonna have to make a decision on aftermarket exhaust, and want her to rumble!
Congrats on the truck...I always love the feeling I get when I get a new dodge. As for exhaust, I had Magnaflow single in-dual out on my 06 Hemi, then when I bought my 06 MEGACAB it already 40 series single in-single out.

Now when I was under the truck looking at it, I didn't think it was going to sound very good. But I was wrong. It's not obnoxious loud, so it doesn't just roar and scream everytime i barely touch the gas. It's more of a deep powerful sound. And it sounds great at cruising speed...

I still set off car alarms from time to time though

oh and guys...what's MDS?

Thanks, brother! I love the truck so far!

MDS is a system Chrysler came up with that cuts off 4 cylinders on the hemi when you're cruising to save gas.

Can anyone give me their thoughts on how the CB vortex would sound if I just go with one tail pipe instead of duals? I'm thinking about keeping the front resonator & cats, just replace the factory muffler and delete the 2nd resonator...
