Bullydog GT Hemi Plus
I will be looking into this for my 2500. I am looking to put in a cam possibly this summer. Would this be able to be customized? From what I know I need a custom tune if I get a new cam because I know it will not hold idle.
Did anyone get tunes for the engine and also the trans? I am not too familiar with tunes so I just wasnt sure how they work in terms of tuning the engine and tranny. I would assume tuning would have to go into both of them.
Good to see this is working for you, sounds like some very nice gains

The shift points are firmed up some with the tuner alone, but my sonnax kit I just put in really makes it shift hard, especially when you get on it. I like it, I like it a lot.
Yeah SO FAR its been a good experience but it does have its drawbacks. The Diablo has the ability to alter WAY more things, while the SC has their kick butt trans tuning. I'm not going to say that the Bully Dog has the best canned tune real world power gains but I will say there is a definite difference in power/economy over stock. IT IS NOT oh my god my neck snapped off when I floored it and im getting 20mpg dramatic, but it does make the throttle jumpy off the line, it has better throttle response, and it will get up and go quicker than it did before. IT IS enough for me to confidently say that after the tune the truck is a different animal than before.

So let me get this right, the 40430 Bully Dog tuner will work with other trucks besides the 2011-12 that bully dogs website advertises? I have a 2007 1500, so should this tuner work with my truck? I am really enticed by the mpg gains that jnellydodge is posting about. Sorry to hijack this thread, just got a little confused.

Yes it will work for 03-12 5.7 rams. If you go on their website and select "applications" for the 40430 it tells you that its works for "start year 2003" end year "2012" rams
If your buying it solely for the MPG gains, I would suggest to let me log more miles so I can really give my fellow members a good solid number on what they are...

I have logged about 800 miles towing and not towing now with the programmer and this is what I can say:
MPG unloaded=Gained 2.6 average
MPG loaded with 14' 5000lb enclosed trailer=Gained 1.8
Its nice to be able to monitor in real time the trans temp, load, intake temp, etc. while I am towing. There is a noticeable power difference with the "regular" tune. Not dramatic, but enough for you to tell something changed, especially down low and midrange like I said before it pulls harder. When I tow I use this tune. Now for the performance ie the "Premium" tune: I would believe the 32 horse gain at the wheels that is claimed by Bullydog. It really becomes evident in how the truck acts in a strong headwind or on an incline. The only knock I have against it is how jumpy it makes the throttle, off the line especially-it will bark the tires pretty easy. And that is with a 2500 with 3.73's pushing 285's, so on a 1500 it would really want to take off like a bat outta hell. Some folks may like that I guess. Would I recommend it? Yes I would.

No one has asked this question, if you got a 2.6 mpg gain, what was your mpg to start with?
BEFORE THE TUNER:
For 2012 unloaded my average was 10.8
Towing it was about 8.3 (factored my 14' enclosed construction trailer AND the heavier 8000lb trailer/trencher combo together on that)
I track my mileage because it is a part of my business.
I think the Diablo will be better for you if you plan on changing cams and such. From what I can tell the Bully Dog tuner does not have the capabilities to adjust the parameters you would need to alter for such a mod. A phone call to Bully Dog would verify this tho, but im gonna say I dont think it can be customized. The 40430 is more of a "canned tune" programmer with only 3 power levels: Stock, Regular and Premium. You can adjust things like trans shift points, rev limiter, gear ratio, tire size and a long list of minor things such as seat belt reminder on/off, auto door lock on/off, etc.
The shift points are firmed up some with the tuner alone, but my sonnax kit I just put in really makes it shift hard, especially when you get on it. I like it, I like it a lot.
