Default Installed a Gen4 radio in my 2002 this week.

Not sure if it's technically a gen 4, but it's certainly either a gen 4 or a gen 3 2500-3500 radio, as I'm 99% sure this radio wasn't offered with my body style.

Bought the radio on Ebay for cheap.

Disclaimer: I'm so, so terrible at progress photos. I'm sorry. Also, it's only 99% done. I've got some glue to clean up in spots and give the cloth I wrapped it in a good clean to rid it of glue residue.

Step 1.) Remove old radio, insert new radio. Verify function. Hack up bezel to accommodate new radio. Cut plastic to fill voids, weld plastic in.

Step 2.) Begin filling with something shapeable. I started with a layer of JB weld to really secure that plastic insert I cut out to the existing bezel. Then I used some Bondo I had sitting around to finish the rest.

(In progress pic. Lots of sanding, filling, and sanding was to come.

Test fit radio..

It fits, yay!

Had to go to work, so I plastidiped it for the day. Looks fugly, I had the full intention of wrapping this and I knew the fabric would cover a million and one sins.

Successfully wrapped. I'm getting better at this.

Finally, reinstalled. I'll take some pics during the day after I clean my glue residue up.

I think it looks bitchin, and this radio sounds way better than the old factory one I had. The bass was so dirty it was causing my door speakers to crackle.

I don't usually use urban vernacular, but that is CLEAN!

Good job.

That head unit was available 06+ when they changed the dash. My question is, it actually works? That stereo was designed for a CANbus system; it is actually functional plugged into your PCI bus electrical/data system?

That's awesome. I wonder if that's because it's a base model radio. Should try one of the newer nav or MyGig.

Sure! Got one to send me?

Edit - It's lower end, but not base. The base model doesn't even have RDS.

Base is single CD, no RDS.

This has built in 6-CD, RDS. Full matrix display. A nice upgrade from the factory unit in my 02!

And finally, those day pics I said I'd get. I also cleaned up the excess glue. It's still a little fuzzy tho. I think I need a lint roller.

I'm super happy with the result.

Looks factory.

But I would assume that was the intent. Good job.

I like the wrap job. Very nice and clean looking. You get an "A" on this install.

Ok guys... Sorry to keep bumping this. But this is a final update. I liked the original wrap, but it wasn't enough. It looked good, but this truck has leather accents.

So.. I got a little carried away.

I re-wrapped it in leather!
