Dodge heads
I have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 5.9l gas engine with 220000 miles on it. The oil has been changed every 3000 miles on it. My question is it advisable to replace the cylinder heads on it with this milage.
Are you trying to fix a problem, or just looking to improve the truck? Factory heads tended to crack, there was a better and very affordable aftermarket cast head available - but I believe they have been discontinued, so they might not be as readily available as they once were.

Shouldn't be. Keep in mind though, the stock heads already had thin decks. That's what led to the problems. When most folks 'recondition' heads, one of the steps is to shave the mating surface, to insure it is flat, this only make the problem worse. Enter the new castings, with thicker decks.... Clearwater and Odessa cylinder head both sell 'em. They are the same company. Can generally find them on ebay for around 600 a pair.
Rebuilt heads were not much savings over new ones, not sure how the economics is working since covid. At 220k miles, I'd be looking at a full refresh - bearings, rings, fresh hone, etc. At minimum, replace the timing chain with a double roller - the originals tended to stretch.
