Default friend just bought sound system, not hitting as hard as we thought input needed asap

my friend just bought a sound system. subs, amp and new head unit. and well ive gone through a couple and lots of my friends have em. this one just didnt turn out like we thought. im pretty sure its because the subs are in a sealed box. if he switches to a ported box will it let the subs hit harder? right now you have to crank it up real loud in order to really feel the subs.

if its in a ported box, it may hit harder, unless the port make the cubic inches too great for the sub...might i ask what kind of sub/amp combo he has? a common error is the sensitivity...first, check the sensitivity adjustments on the amp.

its sony xplod subwoofer and amp combo, alpine head unit. it was all from and installed at best buy, and installation was a serious rip off of $400. which is why i feel so bad cuz he wanted it all professionally done so nothing could go wrong. and here its barely doing anything

Night Runner is right. Check your amp. Back in the day my friend and I built a few boxes and you gotta follow the specs on the speakers to get the best out of them regardless of sealed box or not.

they charged 400 for the installation, or the components and instillation? either way, i dont want to sound like an ***, but a lot of times, you get what you pay for in this aspect. i saved up for damn near 8 months to purchase my jl audio sub/amp combo that i wanted, and it was well worth it...your better off going with rockford, eclipse, alpine ect...u can get those xplodes at walmart (no offense)...if it sucks that bad, honestly, have someone who knows what their doing check out the installation and the settings on the amp...the best thing to do before u buy anything, is research not just what makes a sub or amp ect, but research different companies products...dont do this for a week and make a decision when it comes to something as big as this...it can take a month to figure out what the best thing for YOU is

i know about all the research etc. like i said ive gone through multiple systems in the past. everything from alpine, jl, audiobahn. he just wanted something basic and somethin that wouldnt cost alot.. which well it ended up doing. but still they should be hitting harder than they are. i mean u cant even really feel em until he has the alpine turned up into the 20s, i turn mine up to 12 and mine is already hitting.

so he spent 1k...and thats what he got, listen to this..and this was on my short wide 01 ram

i paid 200 a piece for my 2 jl audio 12w3vs subs (retail for 300 a piece, got that at onlincecarstereo.com)

paid 500 for my 500/1 jl audio amp (retail for 600, onlinecarstereo has a sale right now for 430)

paid 80 for jl audio wireing

paid 300 + tax for custom box that held 1 sub behind driver seat and pass seat with amp flush in the box behind arm rest with ports on the side

total = 1280, but i installed myself with my dad....honestly, it was loudest inside...didnt sound great outside, but sounded damn good inside...friend had 3 12" alpine type R's in his f150 and mine was louder, and he was runnin twice the amps....you just have to get your specs right...now, 1280 is what i paid not including my head unit, 6x9's and 5 1/4's and dynamat, but thats cool, that just improved sound quality a little...all in all i spent about 2k, but that extra 1k wasnt necessarly needed, that could be considered "fine tuning"....i guess what im saying is, if u research, you can get a lot more for your money, not only in quality, but performance

Well, there you go. The better system is one you build a component at a time. His WHOLE system cost 600?! I see no surprise here.

i spent 3k on an all audiobahn component system specifically for a show car.

i spent 300 on the mtx i have in my ram right now.

i have friends who have spent anywhere between $50 all the way to multiple thousands, show cars some of the best in the nation.

i realise yes money can buy some great stuff, but what im getting at is this **** is decent, its notjl w7, butit aint hittin like it should, will a ported box make a difference? i believe it will, but does anyone else think so too or would it be a waste to swap boxes?
