MPG Sucks!
I have an 02 Ram 1500 quad cab 4WD with the 5.9L V-8. I have a K&N air filter on it. I have tried the "tornado" slipped into the intake and I have tried the superchips programmer. I get 13.5mpg hiwaytops on a good day and about 11 avg. Does anyone know of anything else to try? There is no room for one of the intake adapters like the helix. The intake from the K&N system is tight against the body. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks[:@]
well, im getting 11.9 right now and i have a featherfoot. all stock too. and my truck has the MDS in it. plus, its a truck, you can texpect more than 20 mpg on it. and i think 13.5 is good for a 2002 ram 5.9L with the accessories you have.
I had a '98 5.9 4x4 Quadcab and my average was less than 11 and highway best was less than 14. I used synthetics, a light foot, and conservative habits. it won't get better. That said, after 9 years and 131K, the only engine problem that was not "routine maintainence" was a water pump.
It sucks, but Dodge is well known for the worst mileage of the V-8's. My Hemi avgs 11. Don't waste your money on infomercial crap. Thereis enough tests and reviews showing how little they work. You might squeeze 1-3 mpg by addding a CAI and free-flowing exhaust. The only real way to improve mpg is drive it real easy, keep it tuned, watch your air pressure, and don't lift it adding big tires, etc. I know, I know, what's the point of having a truck? My solution, I moved closer to work.

If it makes you feel any better at all, I have an '02 1500 4.7 with a CAI and this last weekend I had to make a 300 mile road trip and averaged 13.6 mpg. 140k on the odo though...
