Cold Air intake?
Alexa, that was funny! Honestly though who is going to admit that the $300 they just spent did nothing but create a cool sucking sound? Here's a good site that sells them and supposedly Dyno's them all as well. www.rpmoutlet.comLeft side, below the Ford crap,is a whole section on Dodge. Most people who have bough the Mopar say it is pretty plain-jane and you'd be better off buying a cheap ebay model and adding a Mopar sticker considering the price. You know they aren't making them, some cheap overseas company is making them cheap and the price goes up %100 when the Mopar sticker goes on.
Oh yea, one other thought to add, there is a TSB as well as plenty of experience out there on the TB of the Hemi needing a regular cleaning because it screws up performance. If it is that susceptible to foreign material, I would think about the dry filter models, no oil. Just a thought.

If you want extra noise and flashy colored parts
go with spending $200-400 on a CAI.
MPG and HP gains are near zero if true tests are done
as has been confirmed by independent volunteers

There are ways to spend $400 and get real hp and MPG gains

Yep, HankL pretty much follows that train of thought and he has done the research about it. I do agree with him, to a certain extent. My theory is that it depends on the engine. Every CAI maker quotes gains in MPG and HP.Maybe true, but you can bet yoursweet-bippy that those numbers are from a car that has the most restricted intake system manufactured. These numbersmay vary depending on what application, ie. what engine, what vehicle, etc. The Hemi for example has been designed with a large air intake that gets a lot of coldair from where it's located. Then again, thetest that HankL linked us to is not a Ram w/Hemi, it's a different design, maybe different numbers. Maybe they work great on a 4.7 because of the design, or better on a Dakota then a Ram. Until I see "independant" testing, I'm holdingoff. And no, I won't believe any "car mag" article because how can they be truthful when so much of their advertising are CAI's. I tried a drop-in and my mpg went down. Put a paper one back in and it went back up. No, not after one tankful, after six months. I tend to think like my old carb days, you put a holley 800 cfm carb on a 4.0L is a little over-kill and will not increase anything other then the hole in your pocket. And if I spent $400 on a CAI, your damn straight I'd be on here tomorrow telling you how my mileage hasalready improved and how I can "feel" the difference. It's human nature. Bottom line, if you want one, get one!
I would like to get for the #1 reason of adding some MPG on my 5.9 even if it is only a 1 or 2 cause it adds up, I just dont want to blow $300-400 on something that is just going to not do anything but give me a cool sound or look good, that dont help me on the MPG ya know?!

you installed it yesterday and already have mpg improvements? did you drive around all night or something?

... three runs to the dump, home depot twice, met some friends for dinner across town, took the kids to the park... about 100 miles and YES I noticed an improvement.
What did you think I was going to do? Put on a CAI and then park it?
What I find funny about this is thread is that a few threads back in a similar disscussion https://dodgeforum.com/m_785991/tm.htm
were peopleslamming K&N and anyone that used one. They alsoquoted Scientific test, Independant Testing, Graphs, Tablesand Opinions about how K&N are crap and will gunk up your TB.
Now in THIS thread they posted a link to an Independant Test that placed the K&N dropin filter as the one that did the best.
Things that make ya go Humm.
Follow the instructions on recharging your K&Nfilter and it won't gunk up your TB. I have been using K&N since the 70s and never had an engin fail due to gunk/dirt/mud getting past it.
