Default Oil fill cap

I've got a question about the oil fill cap. I've got an '03 4.7 and it's a bugger to get off. And I mean 2 hands, standing on the bumper giving it everything I've got. Is it that tight on other trucks as well?

I'm wondering if perhaps it got damaged at the oil change shop I use. I know it wasn't always that tight, and I'm getting a lot of moisture into my oil the last few changes as well.

Sounds like the shop buggered up your oil fill. If the cap is tighter now than it was before, and you're getting moisture in the oil, sounds like the cap isn't sealing correctly. But try and tell them they screwed it up.

if you are going to get a new cap, then get it from the dealer or other reliable source. i tried to order a cap (5.7) from a stant supplier and it was way wrong. looked like it belonged on a lawnmower.it turns out that stant's part numbers are just dead wrong under the class "dodge ram, v8, 5.7." i found out that they were issuing descriptions and part numbers to parts that werejust out ofdevelopment and didn't even start putting on the shelves yet.

Yeah, I was thinking of heading to Dodge anyway and running it by one of the mechanics there. My biggest worry is that they damaged the little resevoir that the cap screws onto as well.

yeah yours is definately screwed up. Mines easy and i never get moisture. I'd just get it from the dealer. I highly doubt they'll rape you horribly on an oil cap

I was thinking it was the resevoir, not the cap. Maybe something a good mechanic can bend back into shape.

So it turns out that it opens no problem when the engine is cool. It's only when it's hot/running that it's so tough to get off. I'm guessing that means I don't have any air/moisture leaks if it's sealing that tight.

To be sure, I'd like to flush the system right out on my next oil change. Is there any procedure for doing this?

I have the same problem of getting my oil cap off on '99 5.9 Durango. The "rachet" mechanism inside is now messed up, just spins. I'll see if more successful when cold, but who changes their oil with the motor cold??

I dont think the guys that changed your oil could have done anything !! how can a plastic bottle damage a metal hole ??? sounds like a the metal is just swelling when it gets warm , totally normal .dont tighten down the cap all the way and you will be fine
