Default Off-Road Question

Just wondering if anyone has taken their Ram off-road to like a dirt course or anything and how it handled? ... My 02 Ram is stock suspension wise and I am buying a set of General Grabber tires before I go.

Well, I am not into off roading and I have all stock suspension on a V6 ST 2wd. Is yours 4x4? anyway, I went on a dirt trail and there were some hills and dips and stuff and all I kept hearing and feeling was a bump and thump. As if the front wheels were separating from the car and then hitting back as the car came back down. Scary crap, I thought something broke.

Ya, I have 4X4 ... I am a little nervous about stuff breaking, but I won't be going crazy through the course :-)

I've owned a dozen 4x4's over the years and most of them stockl were acceptable for the average consumer off road. I would not suggest taking your dodge on the Darien Gap but for a track it should be fine, depending on the track. If you take it slow you are almost never going to break anything. On thousands of miles of trails I have riden EVERYtime I broke something it was because I was being stupid. Broken leaf springs (hitting a rock entirely too fast), engine mounts (jumping in a Jeep), mangled and dented body (as a result of me overstepping my limits or sliding sideways into trees), etc... All my fault. If you are careful I am sure your pride and joy will be just fine. Give it WOT (or just too much throttle for the situation) and you can break thingsvery fast if you're not careful.

Thanks guys ... ya, well I decided not to wait and went to a trail down the street from where I work on my lunch break. It was pretty sweet, rode it pretty hard and didn't get stuck once. I drove up a decent size drop off and almost slid backwards but made it. Everything seems to still be in one piece! I will let you know how it is when I get home. I guess I will definitly take it to the track ... I'll try to get some pics.

to settle a bet of course! ... I have to beat a friend of mine who has a Subaru Imprezza ... thinks that he can handle the dirt better than my truck. I will admit I am a little nervous about the track because I don't have very good suspension, but no question that the truck is way better in a real off-roading scenario!
