K&N CAI Installed
I dont think that is the stuff to use... I had some hood insulation that was given to me, one side had a heavy foil type of material while the other had the insulation. put the foil side out and bolted it down in a couple of places.worked perfect.
The way I was thinkin was a two piece set up.
The first piece would mounted to the air box and have thesame size hole (as the air box)
The second piece would be mounted to the tube and somewhat flush against the first piece. it would allow for engine movement and restrict hot air entering the box.
Just my thoughts...

My Photopaint skills aren't that great but, this is what I am trying to convey.
This is an exploded view of course, filter not shown.

I might think of using some of the floatation from old rotting lifejackets which looks very similar to the white foam you have pictured. Ideally I will look for some gasket material like is used around the CAI already. Something that can seal but still be flexible.
As far as performance gains, I will post tomorrow. I ran a bit today and I actually could "hear" the difference when I jumped on the gas (open mouth and insert foot). Like I said I will try tomorrow and see what I get. Since I have no dyno I will use my old handy dandy notes I keep on 2 tests I have ran since I bought my truck, 0 -60 and 40 - 70. Every change I make to my truck I record the difference. I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon.

Your photoshop skills convey the point. I am going to try something like that when I add a gasket. My is to allow movement but still seal off the CAI.

Either I need to get my hearing checked, probably, or those that "hear" a difference need to have their head examined.

Nice!! I like the step-by-step photos! Does the truck sound better now and run much stronger?

When I jump on the gas I definately hear a difference. I'll post more later after I have had a chance to test it this morning some more.
