RE: doge hemi vs.chevy 427
That rumor about the "Z06" 427 truck has been around for a couple years. Will it happen, I am going to guess not.
If they did though it would re-ignite the truck wars and Dodge MIGHT bring back a SRT Ram. But I woud guess they will put the new Viper engine in it. Also as far as gas milage goes, you should check out the new Viper's MPG, no more gas guzzler tax

Why do I hate GM so much? Well, an '88 Chevy truck that if it was an airplane, it would've been called a hangar queen. That "truck" came with passenger car tires and brakes, an air conditioner that drained INTO the cab. It went through belts like candy. The inside linkage for the doors broke repeatedly and the instruments were so badly grounded, they failed often. I could count on it to NOT start at least once a week. How 'bout an '86 Olds Cutlass that lost 80% of its value in only two years. Nope, I've had enough GM, an' I grew up in a home that was all GM. The only GM I might consider in the future would be a 'Vette, and it would be a toy, not serious transportation.
The flipside is a Dodge Ram 2500 wagon that finally gave it up at 183K miles, an '01 Ram RCSB that is still running strong at 92K. My wife's 300C that is a true blast to drive, and my '03 QCSB with a Hemi and 87K miles with just routine if not regular maintenance.

Why does everyone hate gm so much? Dodge and gm are of the same origin. Dodge (mopar) originally supplied gm with motors and parts. most notibley oldsmobile. I would buy the chevy 427 personally if dodge didnt step up to the plate. Like it or not the 427 is a beast. If it was a ford on the other hand i wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I don't think comparing GM products of the 80s to Chrysler products of the new millenium is completey fair. Compare your 86 Olds to a K car and that would be more objective. Face it, all cars of the 80s suck.
I was looking for a newer Chevy truck when I found my Dodge. I think the 3rd gen Ram are among the best looking trucks ever made, but I am a huge fan if the GM Gen III motors. Everybody makes good vehicles these days.
I like the LS7. It's probably the best pushrod motor ever built.

The second vehicle I ever bought had an L88 427 in it. It truly was a bad *** motor. I kept that engine and planted it in ever vehicle I owned until I joined the service. I would still have it now except my cousin convinced my mom to sell it to him while I was away on my first tour. I haven’t spoken to him since then. That SOB! hehe.
I would love to see the return of the 426 Hemi in a Ram tho. I’d buy one.

Evidently it isn't too hard to make about a 7 liter 3rd gen hemi. The factory just doesn't want to.

The bore and stroke are way off for max performance and life on that motor.
A true 426 hemi has a 4.25" bore and a 3.75" stoke.
A 427 Ford was 4.23" bore and 3.78" stroke.

Evidently the proformance is waiting to be unlocked. All things equal, similiar setup should yield the mopar the winner due to the better flowing/more efficient cylinder heads. But we won't know unless one of the aftermarket companies tries it. Apparently the almost square bore/stroke ratio yields a beautiful 565 HP @5500 RPM, 600 Torque @4600 RPM (4.080-Bore 4.050" Stroke Pump Gas Dyno Tested & Tuned).[sm=devilgrin.gif]

Ther is more to it than just getting the cuin, you have to do it in th right bore to stoke ratios to get the proformace and life span.
