Cheap mods for 4.7?
What are some cheap mods that I can do for this engine. Just to give a little more power. Also anything I can do to make it have better gas mileage. Its quad cab pickup. Right now I am averageing about 13 mpg. I know one way is to keep my foot out of the pedal which I do. Any suggestions?
K&N drop in: $55
Spuperchips programmer: $ 270
CAI: $200-ish
Exhaust: $350 - $600 depending on brand and construction.
The only problem is once I did this, I have even a HARDER time keeping my foot out of the pedal as I love hearing the engine suck air and the new exhaust tone....[:@]
I get 14.2-14.5 around town and 18-19 on the highway.

It has flowmaster exhauston it and a K&N filter on it as well. I was wondering how do you go about cleaning the k&N filter? Would using full synthetic oil on it increase power? The best highway I have gotten so far is 15mpg but on a distance of 20 miles of straight hwy.

K&N filters are cleaned with either their "Recharge" kit, which includes a spray cleaner and re-oiling spray. The filter is a woven cotton, so actually, I've used Simple green and a hose to clean them and 2-stroke filter oil spray to lube them, only cause I had it already. I've since bought a Recharge kit. Not recommending the "Other brand cleaners and lube",but it's not a new filterprinciple (oil soaked media).
How many miles on it? My plugs were toasted at 39K, but as it turned out, I didn't see ANY increase in fiel mileage after relpacement.
I've also noted a slightly higher MPG rating if I did the math by hand, and not relied on the truck's computer (on the headliner) to calculate my mileage.
Fill to top, drive, fill to top, miles devided by gallons = MPG.
Superchips does not make a flashpaq for the 4.7l engine. The K&N filter should not need to be cleaned until you put about 50k miles on it.
I just bought this truck about 4 days ago and I am trying to learn as much as possible about it. The truck has 63,400 miles on it and I do not know when the filter was put in there. I have been relying on the cargo computer for the MPG.
Unless you installed the filter when you bought the truck I would go ahead and clean it now and start it from a baseline. Also unless the previous owner has documentation when the last oils changes were made, engine, diffs, tranny, transfer case, etc... you would be better off changing them as well. You also might want to run a fuel injector cleaner through the tank as well. Plugs and wires might also be a good idea. I understand my laundry list is not going to be cheap but knocking one thing out at a time will eventually hit your whole list. As far as documentation I would only believe print outs from somewhere professional, unless you know the previous owner.. Just my $0.02
