This is from www.amsoil.com
For my 2005 Ram 1500 with LSD
Controlled Slip Differential, Rear 9.25.....GL-5*[4][5]
All Temps......75W-140
Severe Gear 75W-140
The notes indicated by the [4][5] are as follows:
4. Synthetic based oil.
5. Trac-lok equipped axles require Limited Slip Additive be
added to the lubricant
Maybe I'll give it a try...

I'm using Royal Purple 75w - 140w and it does not need the additional modifier although I had already dropped the bucks to purchase the Mopar modifier, I'm not using it. Everything works perfectly - no chatter. There are many excellent options available - certainly Amsoil as well.

the 3rd gen AAM axels do not need friction modifier. . .there are no clutches in the LSD mechanism. instead there are worm gears that lock everything up.
with that said some people have reported chatter comeing from their AAM axels and poured in some FM. the chatter went away.

I also changed out my LSD rear end oil and went with Mobil 1 75w 140. I added no modifier and it makes no noise. Save your money. If it don't make noise when turning you don"t need it. I had a 1987 Chevy 1500 with a LSD Auburn and 3.90 gears. I did'nt put friction modifier in it after an oil change. Went around a corner and the rear end made a heck of a lot of racket. Added the stuff and it shut up. That's all I got to say about that.
Edit to add the Chevy rear end oil was not synthetic stuff. Get a good synthetic.
