Default Question for a buddy

Don't shoot me but.... it is another exhaust question. My friend has an 2007 Hemi 4x4 rc/sb and wants to put a flowmaster 40 series muffler on with 3 inch in and 3 inchduels out the rear. I have read the entire exhaust link and really can't find any definitive answers.

1st- Will the 40 work with the 07 and the MDS or is the 50 better?
2nd- Will he lose any low end performance with this setup?
3rd- The drone that people talk about, is that only when the MDS kicks in?
4th- Is the Magnaflow a better muffler for the 07?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!!

well, ya i cant think of a reason why a 40 wouldnt work, but maybe im missing something and what is mds?[8D] idk what mds is so maybe it wont work... as for flowmasters, they are chambered and actually interrupt the flow of exhaust. idk whether or not magnaflows are chambered or packed, but so you know, packed mufflers dont interrupt the flow like chambered mufflers. in many cases, i have heard flowmasters disrupt the flow so much, they actually lose a littler performance. however, i am sure it is so minute it is not noticable without having the truck hooked up to a computer before and after to compair the performance

I have heard that the 40 does not work with the MDS well. Someone on here said that flowmaster recommends the 50 for I bekieve 06-07's. I have told my buddy this but the 50 cost about 175 bucks, which he is not real kool with. Night Runner- MDS is where the motor shuts down 4 cylinders.

I have the 40 on my 07 and it sounds like...after-market exhaust. Yes there is a drone when MDS kicks in but since that is on the interstate usually there would be a drone anyways as you are at higher rpms and flowmasters get louder with higher rpms.

I have the Flowmaster Super 40 on my 06 5.7L with MDS. I cut the 2 resonators and the muffler out, filled in the holes with 3" pipe and the 40. I have NO issues with performance. I have been runing around this week alot on the interstate and run 2200 RPM at 80 MPH. The drone is not noticeable if you ask me, only here it when coasting down a hill or on a really flat stretch. I also have the Superchip 3815 and a K&N 77 Series intake, trust me, the intake covers the sound of the exhaust when accelerating hard. Many people (see biglg) don't want the noise but doesn't bother me. I don't think I lost any performance when I first put the 40 on. Had it on for a year almost before the chip and exhaust were added. I also have the chip set to performance right now so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Hope that helps.

I also can't speak for on the MDS issue, but I can tell you that he will not lose ANY low end torque with a flowmaster muffler due to less backpressure. Flowmasters are among the worst flowing mufflers on the market, so if anything, he will gain backpressure. They sacrifice a lot of flow for great sound (I'm not bashing them, mind you, I have one) but there are many better choices for better flow.
So DO NOT let the thaught of lost backpressure stop you from getting a flowmaster. Now if you want
GREAT FLOW and LOUD, GREAT SOUND, there is a little muffler called a CHERRY BOMB!
