Default Power steering failed. Now what?

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 (Hemi) and the darn power steering gave out and wouldn't you know it, the warranty has already expired.

Back story: I was driving on the freeway and the power steering gave out then the truck started running hot. I managed to make it cooler by turning on the heater and made it home.

So does anyone know how much it costs to get the power steering unit fixed from the dealership? Or are there any reputible Dodge mechanics in the Pomona California area?

I am not mechanically enclined so self-repair is not an option.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds like you blew a belt if it is overheating and you dont have ps check to make sure your belt is intact

I'm not buying the belt, if the water pump stopped the flow would not make it to the heater core. Homer may have just hit some **** luck. Was it hot or coldout when this happened? Have you driven the truck since?

Also, TD is on to something, do you have a puddle/spray under your truck? Is there still fluid in the reservoir? There is a P/S cooler right, check to make sure it is fine too.

well here is my suggestion after reading the others suggestions bc i didnt even think of the belt (way to make me look bad guys ) check the belt it is cheap and easy to fix.... than check your lines once again cheap and easy.... the pumps require more work and money and are less likely to be the problem.. i have been through many instances working on other peoples cars where they thought they lost their power steering but it was just a bad hose or something......

Well the power steering fluid has been leaking for some time. All I had been doing was refilling it. I should've taken it to the dealership. That's what I get for being lazy.

The conditions were hot at the time I had these problems, but I don't think enough to make it run hot. I'll go run out to see if it is the belt and write back.
