Default Latest Oil Change

Hope one of you guys has an answer for this. Had my oil Changed today and when my tech removed the filler cap for my lube, the inside of the cap looked like it had some rust and moisture on the inside. Should I panic yet? He said he thinks I'm missing a breather cap.

Mine looks the exact same way. My grandfathers a mechanic by trade and he has never said anything about it when I have changed the oil.

it is cause by short drives . the engine does not get a chance to warm up and burn up the moisture that is in the oil . hence the reason for a good long drive from time to time .

The engine is metal. COld metal.... as the engine warms, condensation forms, and hot air rises. It's not uncommon, but as stated: If you don't run it long enough to get things dried out, then it sits there. Ford had an issue with that in the mid 80's with this on the 302's to the point that tan, yucky crap would be seen in the valve cover with the oil fill cap. It was harmless, but looked really nasty.

No fear, it's normal.. When i first got my vehicle, I started using Mobil 1 synthetic, and when i changed the oil myself, i noticed this tan/brown mayonaise type material on the underside of the oil filler cap...Checked it out with Mobil 1 and with a couple of people on this forum, as well as my trusted gooroo mechanic, and it's my understanding that i wasn't allowing the vehicle to run long enough, to burn off some of the condensation that builds up inside an engine.....So have no fear dude.....just keep driving, and keep changing that oil.....hope this helps..

At least i know why now. I never saw this in 25k miles on my truck. then just saw it last oil change. May have to do with that fact that i drive 5 miles to work instead of 40 huh
