Thoughts/Opinions on Oil Change's?
I make sure that I change mine between 6 to 8k miles and use a full synthetic. However, I always check my oil when I fill up and if my oil looks burnt then I change it quicker. It all depends on my driving habits for that period of time. I put on at least 3k miles a month and this plays a factor in when I change. I only use my mileage for reference if I am busy, otherwise I go by what my oil tells me.
Fella's i think you're missing the point of the question here.... I'm not asking what mileage is good for the oil change..
Basically, i read that in the United Kingdom, they routinely change their oil in their vehicle every 12,000 miles......
Do you think this is wise? do you think the Mobil 1 synthetics could handle that kind of beating?

I am using mobil 1 synthetic extended performance (15,000 miles). I ran 5,000 miles and then just changed the mobile one oil filter. I then topped it off. I am currently at 7,000 miles and plan on going to 10,000 miles before I change it all out. I plan on doing one of those oil test kits at that point to see what I had. Does anyone have any test kits that they recommend and what kind of info am I going to get back? I am putting alot of faith in Mobil 1. Is it wise? Only time and mileswill tell. I think alot of people are just scared to go over the 3,000 mile mark.

It depends on how and where you drive. as to how long any oil lasts, nice clean highway driving, with little stop and go will allow your oil to stay debris free and last longer, the more dirt and stop and go traffic you see, the quicker the oil deterates.
The only way your gonna see if the oil is bad ? lol.. is have it tested. you cant tell by looks and smell ,taste.. LOL...love people who says that.. dino oil and if you read the book that came with your truck most only change the oil filter at 3 grand then change oil at 7500.. as far as UK changing at 12 grand could be a cost savings....amsoil change at 15,000 or 1 year which ever comes first , change oil filter at 3,000 or use there Eaa filters never change till 1yr or 15 grand..

Are you sure about the blackstone.com? It looks like a web site for a financial advisor firm.

If you're looking for a test kit, go to Blackstone.com it's a oil test facility...The test kit can be ordered, and they will send it to you for free.....I have one now, that i plan to use it when my oil reach's 5K miles....at this point i'll be able to know if i can go further without an oil change...
