Lift for 07 Ram 1500
I have an 07 Ram that i bought a few months ago. I am looking to do a 6in lift and run 35-37 inch tires. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe pics of someone who did the same lift? What tires fit with what lifts?
This one has been beat to death, I'd normally send you off to use the search feature, but I'm in the mood to type.
First of all, I have almost 20 years experience with lifted trucks, so here goes:
You need 6 true inches to clear 37's. I know for a fact on the '02-'05s only Skyjacker's 6" kit gives you a true 6". The Fabtech, Pro Comp & Superlift 6" kits only net out to between 5 and 5.5" and will not clear 37's without some trimming or additional lift. Not sure on the '06 & '07s as you have a completely different front end setup (coil overs vs. torsion bars) and your kits are different, but remember to get 37's under there, they must be at least 6" no matter what the kit is called on paper.
That said (I know, you other guys are getting sick of hearing this). There is no way in hell you should look to put tires larger than 35" on your IFS front end that is comparitively much weaker than a solid front axle setup (such as on a 2500 series truck). The front end components just cannot handle it. I know guys are gonna get on here and say they have 37's and have no problems, but I ride off road up in Ga. with a bunch of guys in my hunting club, and when someone is breaking front end components off road it is almost always someone with an IFS truck with big tires.
So, if you are going to look at 35's, then there are a couple of options for you. You could get by with as little as a 2" level kit, but with 35" meats, you are going to have rubbing issues with anything but moderate off road use. A 3" body lift would clear with enough to spare, but you would still have that "nose down" look so many of us hate not to mention a much harsher ride than a suspension lift. A 4" suspension lift would work quite nicely (that's what I have) as you would clear 35's easily, and have better handling than a 6" lift mainly due to the fact that your center of gravity is a little bit lower. A 6" kit would also suffice if you just like that little bit of extra lift and the hollow tire well look.
Here's a couple of pics with my '04 with a Rancho 4" Suspension Lift & 35" tires:

HammerZ71, do you have any idea what size backspacing is required to run a 35" tire with a 4" lift? I have searched and searched to no avail. Is this something a regular tire store could figure out for me, or would I need to go to a 4x4 shop? I don't know of any 4x4 shops around here (Fayetteville, GA)...your post says you ride off road up in Ga...where abouts are you at in GA, or do you just go off roading here? Know of any good competent shops? I'm looking at the CST 4" spindle kit, by the way... Thanks.
Oh yeah, my truck is a 1500 2wd, 2007
