The benefits are a greater time between oil changes. Instead of changing your oil every 3K miles, you can extend it from 7500, 10K, 15K, 25K, or even 35K with certain Amsoil products.

So, you're certainly saving money if you're changing your oil half as often of even less...

There are other benefits as well like reduced wear on parts...

I've used RP, Mobil 1, and Amsoil in my truck. No complaints with any of them. I prefer Amsoil as I believe it's a superior oil, then RP followed by Mobil 1. As for filters, again...Amsoil, Mobil 1, K&N (and I've read that the Mobil 1 and K&N are the same filter just that K&N has a nut on the bottom)

Well, I won't be going past the recommended change intervals because I am not going to void my Lifetime powertrain warranty by going 10K on an oil change, so Castrol GTX is fine for my 3K changes.

I voted "other" but probably could just as well have voted Valvoline. I'm sold on my local Carquest brand Full Synthetic. Manufactured by Ashland Oil (Valvoline) but MUCH cheaper. It's only a few cents more than their Carquest dino oil. I'll never go back now...

wow you brought this back from the dead. this should be a sticky because we do get alot of . what type of oils do you use. this wya the ycan reas through the different options and see why peopel use what they use.
i personally use mobil-1. i have tried rp a few times and got the same concern. it seemed to thin out real quick. first time i changed it at 5k and the second time i changed it at 3k to see a difference. it came out like it was water even when cold. I really dont know if that a bad thing or not it just didnt sit right with me so i went back to mobil one and do my changes every 5-7500k depending on time of year i have to do oil change. ( WINTER SUCKS)

not a bad price. i pay like $6-$6.50 per quart. but its been tough finding mobil 1 that i use up her ein the east coast. so i found last 2 of 12 quart cases at a walmart in my mobil 1 so i grabbed them. should last be a while. i also you purolator pureone filters. i am tempoted to use mobil-1 but $12 a filter is crazy. maybe if i wanted to do 10k changes but the pureone works great for me.
