Default Dodge V6 vs. others

I know the Dodge has slightly more rated hp than Ford or Chevy but is also much heavier than those two. When I bought mine I didn't drive the others. I only compared price and options and Dodge came out way ahead. A friend has a 2000 F150 2wd reg. cab V6 with 5 speed manuel. This thing is much faster than my truck. From all gears. It gets off the line well and really pulls hard on the hiway in 5th. No downshifting what so ever. He said it's rated at about 200 hp. so why is this thing so much better in the engine department? I have never driven or road in a full size Chevy V6.

I 2nd that my buddies 1997 Ford F-150 V-6 seems to have more get up and go compaired to my 2006 Dodge he also has a maual 4X2 Trans.

I do think the Dodge is a nicer truck but the 3.7 is it down fall next time It a HEMI all the way.

But if Ford comes out with it so called high out put V-8 in there F-150 they have been talking about we wiil see when it's time to trade in this truck The Ford 4 door truck has more Cab room.my kids legs are getting longer every day they will need more leg room soon.

I also sure Ford will come out with the MSD type motor also to compete with the Dodge Hemi.

NO GM PRODUCTS unless it's the Vett.

I wonder if it's thedisplacement(3.7l vs. Fords 4.2l) that hampers the Dodge or if the extra weight just kills the power.

Thet say noting makes up for cubic inchs then once again there's small motors now a days that put out some high HP numbers.

I think it's is weights trans, gears all of them are palying a factor in our trucks been down on the power side I coworker has the 3.7 in his Jeep Liberty he told me the hauls butt.

I don't know how much the Jeep weights but it's built like a flying brick also.

I wish someone did Turbo there 3.7 and told us how it worked out for them or even supercharged a 3.7 This would be cheaper than trading in for a Hemi.

Someone should make a complete Hop up kit for our trucks and let us know about I would get one the rest of the bolt on stuff they sale is a joke.

Vertec, Packton, Banks. STS, Ect someone should look in to this I even let them us my truck for a test bed.

I have driven a Liberty and they are pretty quick. I would think that the gears would makea difference as it seems the guys on here with the 3.21's complain a lot more about the v6 than those with 3.56 or 3.92's. I don't know what Ford or Chevy uses though. I'm with you Marv as I wish someone would look into the turbo or supercharger as it would be much cheaper than getting screwed on a trade.I paid 13,100 for my truck with the tow package which has the 3.56's and limitedslip. I added power locks, as well as carpet and cloth seats, 20's with all terrains, and a chromegrille.I'm going to get power windows for christmas and I will basically have an SLT for under 14,000. I got my grille for 50 on ebay, the power locksfor 50 on some site I don't remember, paid 90 for the cloth and carpetand my dad used to do upholstery so he did it free. Power windows are 250 and I paid 500 for my wheels and tires because when I worked at the dealer I got their discount.

With a Ford 6er, you can only get a regular cab and on the old ones a extended cab 4.2L engine. Standard now is 3.31, but you can get the 3.55 at no additional price. If you want a super cab or crew cab, you loose bed and you have to get 8 cylinders. No configuration for 6.

That makes sense. Nobody should sell a full size extended cab truck with a V6.

nothing wrong with a v6 so long as it has enough power to match its displacement.

Aint that the truth. My wife's mustang 03 V6 3.8L engine and 3.73 gears with O/D, stock. Light car, nice engine, fast car. I can only imagine what the V8 would do and to add insult to injury, it would get 24mpg.

I drove the Chevy v6 before I bought my Dodge. I love both Dodges and Chevy(just envy Dodges more)... and I have to say the Chevy was lacking. The only reason I was interested was for the extended cab. After I found out they don't make manuals for it though, I thought screw Chevy just for that.

The RPM maxs out at about 4700 also. My dodge sittin on 20's is faster than that thing, and looks a ton cooler. Plus their v6 with a exhaust sounds like a rice burner. Everybody still thinks I have a 4.7L just because of my exhaust!

I love my truck. I only got it to get me through high school till I can afford a CTD. Its not fast, but it looks and sounds awsome.
