Default oil gauge

Has anyone with 4.7 had a problem with loosing oil pressure at low idle? If so what was it. Mine is a 2002 and I have 124,000 miles on it. Thanks

truck getts oil changes every 3-3500 miles. truck runs great. doesn't lose power when the pressure drops.

Could be a bad sending unit. Are you losing any oil? If not, I'd have to say it's an electronic problem.

not losing any oil and no other gauges are affected. Just the oil pressure and it is mainly when I slow down. I just don't want put all kinds of parts on and spend a lot of money if I don't have to.

I have my 2002 Ram in the shop for the same problem right now. I thought that it was a simple sending unit but was told a horror story about when they had a truck like mine in there that they kept a manual guage on it for four hours with good oil pressure. A week later the guy's enging seized. I have been looking on google finding that this is a common problem with 4.7L and 5.9L engines and is caused by sludge. NOT GOOD!

Engine flush, a solvent that goes in the engine oil then flushed out will break up sludge.

I did a mild flush on my truck but the gauge was still dropping, I took it to another garage for a second opinion and they put a pressure gauge and said I had 45 psi at idle. They put the old oil sending unit back in and tapped on it and found out that it was intermittent so thay replaced the oil sending unit. I'm keeping a close eye on it but so far the pressure gauge has not dropped.

124,000 miles on the clock..........could just be old age catching up???
You know, worn bearings rings etc etc.
Are you burning any oil?
Is there an oily smell at the exhaust?
I did have a Toyota once, where the prevous owner hadn't kept up with oil and filter changes etc.
The oil pump pick up, as suggested in a previous post, was indeed sludged up like a fatchicks coronary artery in a burger bar LOL.
