Controller Area Network And Bus means broadcast. Basically its a computer network designer to allow controllers to communicate with each other and with a host computer. I know that doesn't explain it but it is sorta hard to put to words....

anyone have any experience with Audiovox Prestige systems? I got a guy that will install one of those remote starts & security system for around $400... Doesn't seem as popular as Clifford, Viper, or Python systems for aftermarket...

I work at Circuit city back in the car electronics where we do the installs and everything for remstarts.

whoever said they got theres for about 200 was about right. all you will need is a remote start system and then a bypass for the factory passive anti theft. also we will need a spare key to place inside the bypass. the spare CAN NOT I REPEAT CAN NOT be a chrysler sentry key. it has to be one that does not have the keyless buttons on the key itself. because taht key has to fit inside the bypass so we can replicate the signal the key makes when you start the engine.

remstarts arn't terribly hard to do. it's just a giant jumble bump of wires. it's just glorified hotwiring of a car

all in all ur install probably be right around 200-280 depending on system of choice.

I didn't think these keys had any kind of chip in them or anything... so what needs to be bypassed?

the key has a chip in it that basically gives off a signal that the truck detects which then allows it to start. basically the bypass uses a spare key to replicate the signal that way when you use the remote start the vehicle reads the signal and allows the truck to start.

almost all new vehicles have chips in the key. very rarely will it not be. the ram is not an exception.

the bypass is basically a box that you place the key in. and then the bypass has a wire that we loop around the ignition. this will replicate the signal from the key allowing the vehicle to start.

the one we use is about 50 bucks and we charge 30 to install the bypass. so basically 80 bucks added to the remstart system.

just be happy you don't have a gm with passlock2 lol. then you have to get a special bypass that costs 100 big ones and is a bitch to hook up. because all gm stuff uses data wires from ignition to BCM. or something like that. it's a very strange set up i've only seen it done on one vehicle.

gotcha, I called my local CC and got the same info... except they said I needed more relays as well as the bypass, and I can only use an OEM key instead of this universal thing you guys use. so in the end your $200 python was close to $400 installed after all the extras, so I ordered the OEM one and will have my local dealer install and program keys. Thanks Guys.

wait a second? they said you can only use the OEM remote for the remote start system?? that makes absolutely no sense.

the extra relays were for probably two things. I can't look up that truck because i'm not at work but I will tommorrow while I am. but the relay is because you may have two starter wires, or you may have more than a total of three ignition accessory wires. if that is the case then you would need relays.

another thing relays may be needed for would be the door locks. if ur door locks are positive trigger then you may need relays but I know the python system comes with the relay pack to address the positive trigger locks.

explain in a bit more detail what they meant by you can only use the OEM key. of course you would need an OEM dodge key to place inside the bypass but that's the only thing you would need it for. I dunno what they were trying to tell you sounds a bit like you were talking to a newbie

I am curious about which kits you would use at CC? I was looking at some of the DEI parts and it looks like I would need the remote start, a bypass like the xk03, and a chip bypass like the PKU-CH2X. Is it possible to avoid the PKU-CH2X in a 08 1500 with factory alarm/rke only?

I have installed a few remote starts in older vehicles but geting the right parts for this one is confusing!

the one we usually use is the DEI 556UW on almost all vehicles. for GM with passlock systems we use the 1700g1. there's a few that are different from the uw but they are few and far between. the 556uw is basically a universal that is mean to work with any DEI system on just about any Vehicle. the only one it doesn't is gm's as far as I know. the downfall to that 556uw is that you need a spare key. but it is a lot easier to hook up. I've never tried programming one of the chrysler interaces like the ones you were looking at. they both do the same job it's just one needs programmed and is a bit trickier to use the other just needs a spare key
