2005 Ram Front End Rattle/Clunking (AT LAST FIXED TODAY)
Buganddoug,
They told me it was in the inter part of the rack system shaft. I don't have the reps namefrom the corp office as they flew out today when they found it was fixed, but Ican getthe service managers number. The dealer was VERY helpful during this process. My hat goes off to them for all the time and hard work they put into my vehicle.
I asked the dealer how much this would have cost me if the truck wasn't under warranty. He said approx 800.00 to 900.00 for the rack and 4 hours labor. On a good note the 05 with 16,000 miles has an entirely new front end now

Oh yeah, mine could be heard over the magna flow exhaust and the stereo up. I told the dealer I knew a few people with the same issues "On the Forum"and couldn't figure it out either. He said under 50,000 miles he would be willing to help those people out. Sounds like this could be a recall sometime in the future if he volunteered to fix out of warranty.

When I took mine to the dealership for the same problem, the rack & pinion was the first thing they replaced. I was good for a couple weeks & the the clunking started back up. I don't know if they did something different than what you had done so keep us informed on whether the noise comes back or not.
mine sounds more like a bushing noise. I should get under there and check it out. I havent even looked under the truck at all since I bought it. its a really faint noise. if you turn the radio above 10, you cant hear it at all. so I'm not that worried about it.
A good friend of mine is having a simular problem and has been taking it to me to find out what it is. He wants to lift it but has been waiting till we get this resolved to do so. His clunks when going over some bumps sounds like from the right side. Like a bolts loose.
