How Did You Stop the Freeway Bounce?

RE: How Did You Stop the Freeway Bounce?
i live in Los Angeles as well, and i'd gather you're talking about the 101 or the 405.
I was on the 405 today bouncing around, honestly i just deal with it, it is a truck after all... if i'd wanted a smooth ride i would have bought a cadillac
edit: what seems worse to me is hitting pot holes at 25mph +, where the wholetire/wheel seems to ream off balance

RE: How Did You Stop the Freeway Bounce?
I Have The Same Thing On I88 In Illinois... Drive It Almost Everyday. My Tax Dollars Went To Replacing The Road to Make Conditions Better.. Well My First Ride On The "New Road" Had Me Holding My Head..
"This Is Going To Suck"
Noticed The Bone Rattlin' Bounce Ruining My Day For About A Year Now. Because It Never Did It Before (Same Speeds, Same Tires) I Know It Was The Road. On A Bad Day You'll See My Ridin' The Shoulder Just The Ease Some of The Bounce. Ironically My Ford Doesn't Do It Though.. Same Conditions Different Truck. Grrr
Same Boat Bill.. Drive It Almost Everyday. Quite The Mood Killer.

Hmmm... I've only had my truck about 5 months now, however it's seen most of the states East of the Mississippi. I've yet to expierence this bounce you are talking about, and I've driven on some BAD interstates. No offense to my home state of Indiana, however they have some HORRID roads.... Still no "Bounce" So I guess I have no fix for you... Sorry..

RE: How Did You Stop the Freeway Bounce?
I drive the 405 daily, when I first bought the truck the hopping around really freaked me out, specifically on a sweeping turn. Found that the best way to deal with it is to ignore it rather than apply steering correction - the understeer caused by the front hopping over the concrete joint will be compensated when the rear end kicks out slightly a fraction of a second later.
My '00 Sierra Ext Cab never did this, but it had a softer suspension and a shell, rode like a garden variety passenger car. The Ram reminds me of the way an '87 Vette with the Z52 suspension rode, exhibited the same hopping phenomena on the 405. I do notice that after 9000 miles the shocks seem to have broken in, ride is not nearly as harsh and unforgiving as when it was new.

thebean, I'm coming from an 02 Sierra, however we had an 00 Sierra for a work truck also. Yours really rode that good??? Personally I think my Ram rides a lot softer and more comfortable than my 02 Sierra, and the 00 we had as well... Granted, my 02 had over 160k miles when I traded her in, but I kept her suspension maintained... Even with my Ram's 20" wheels, the ride is 100% better over my Sierra... hmmm... Weird, maybe I had a bad truck... lol

RE: How Did You Stop the Freeway Bounce?
Maybe it was the added weight of the shell that softened things up?
I had a 2wd SLE with the tow package and a 5.3L... I know the 4wds rode a lot differently... My brother-in-law's Silverado 2500 4wd 6.0L seemed to ride a LOT harder than my Sierra. Were yours 4x4?
In any case, I do prefer the firmer ride and handling of my Ram overwhat used to be my Sierra.Probably because itshandling quirks remind me of a Corvette I shouldn't have gotten rid of. Side note: one thing I really like about my Ram over the Vette is that in the Vette it seemed like almost every V8 Mustang I met at a stoplight or passed on the freeway that was driven by a guy wanted torace me, it was a bit annoying since the only racing I do is on a closed course. This hasn't been a problem in the Ram.

Sounds like there is no solid 'fix' from what you guys are saying. I don't really mind it that bad to be honest but it's a little embarassing when I have other people in the truck and they start getting puzzled looks on their faces and are looking for hand holds. For the record, I'm talking about the 105 fwy, especially westbound.I think I'll put adjustable shocksin the rear (even though no one has voted for shocks thus far) and get a shell. Oh and switch to a high quality blinker fuild(which has the most votes so far).

I have a QC longbed, rides like a limo. My friend has a RC short bed and it bounces all over on the same freeways here in LA. It's the wheelbase, the longer wheelbase will give you a better ride. I think adding some weight to the bed will soften it a little.
