As far as i can tell , your screwed. The Premium sound amp has to be wired around to get full range input to your speakers. Even this might not help with the stock head unit, I think your head unit is passive input for the amp and the amp powers the output. At least I think thats correct, i might be wrong.....

Good points, all... but don't forget, both a Brand X 12" woofer anda Brand Y 12" woofer have the same POTENTIAL to move the sameamount of air. Other things factor into this, like speaker cone shape, material, magnet, ect. Amps are the same way; the potiental for an amp to put out 1000W doesn't mean it's a QUALITY sound. And different companies use different measurements to label the output value. Most quality amps are rated in RMS (Root Mean Square, or 70.7% of the volume of the sine wave), with a higher Peak power.

The RMS is the ablility to produce continous power, where the Peak power is maximum output. An Alpine 100W amp has more power than an off-brand 100W amp that rates it's amps in peak power. And as discussed before, the Alpine (or other quality brand) amp will actualy limit the peak output to avoid clipping; not only does it sound better, but it protects your speakers.

Go ahead and get the JL's, just don't abuse them by cranking the radio too loud. No sense spending the money to put some crappy $50 speakers in the truck if you are just going to replace them later. Put the $50 towards a new amp.

yea i definately agree with u smitty. all subs have the "potential" to do something. but like you said many components come into the equation. a sub might have the potential to handle what say 1000 w rms but it's components may not be albe to handle that much power. RMS is definately a big

i wouldn't call this a war. It's merely a debate between intellectuals (sp) we arn't talking trash on each other or anything so I don't see a problem with it. not like this is the TOTM thread here

I already pointed out that no one had told the guy what fell out of the door in post #16 of this thread; in post #36, someone told him what it probably was. I haven't seen this as a forum war, to me it's several guys sharing information and ideas in what I would consider very civil fashion, especial for a online forum. I myself have learned a few things the past few days off of this thread. Maybe YOU are the one who should be paying better attention.
