Lift and Tires

Lift and Tires
I am thinking about doing a lift and new tires soon to my 05 QC 4x4 ram 1500. I have narrowed it down to two options. I am thinking about keeping the stock 17x8 rims on my truck too. I want to do either a 4in rough country lift with 35x12.5x17 toyo m/t's or go with the 5in rough country lift and stuff 37x13.5x17 toyo m/t's in there. The question is would I be able to mount those onto a stock rim safely of am I basically forced into a 17x9 rim? I want to save the extra money to go with 4.56 gears if I go with 37's because I will need them with the 4.7. Either way it will be a sweet looking set up though.

RE: Lift and Tires
I think I am just going to go with the 35x12.5x17 on just a 4in lift, but that is still down the road. I just bought the truck and it has new285x70x17 Khumo all terrains that ride really nice. But I just ordered D.O.R flowmaster's with a 40 series muffler. Then in 2 months I am going to get a throttle body spacer and Volent cold air intake. Then for christmas it will be headers and a newmagnaflow cat converter. Then 206 cams. The lift and tires are 3 years or so down the road. After all I am 18 and I just bought my ram and am paying for everything on it and for my college. All I cansay is that I am proud to be the owner of my 05 QC 4x4 ram.I was thinking about an 04 F150, but that would have been a mistake. I love everything about my ram. I like the 4.7 in it too. Alot of power for a small engine but not as much as in a hemi...but alotbetter milage than a hemi. lol

37's require a FULL 6" of lift to fit without major cutting. You want 35's anyway on a 1500, too many people going through too many front ends with 37" & larger tires. 12.5" tires should be mounted on 9" wheels minimum. And lastly, you are still gonna want 4.56 gears with 35" tires with a 4.7. I wasn't happy with the sluggishness of 35's with my Hemi and stock 3.92 gears...

You can do the rear only, if and ONLY IF you NEVER engage 4WD! If you have a different ratio front & rear and you put it in 4WD the flatbed dude will have to go back for yourtransfer case and othercomponents after he gets your truck loaded up...
My advice is to save up until you have the cash to do front, rear and put a good LSD in the rear at the same time...

RE: Lift and Tires
The Toyo's are a great tire, the only brand I'd probably ever put on a truck besides Mickey Thompson or Dick Cepeks. They cost, but you get what you pay for.
On the gears I got mine at 4 Wheel Parts and had the Orlando Store do the install. They price matched the best deals I found online and comped the labor on the Auburn LSD install if I bought it from them at the same time. Came to just over $1400 with tax for the rear gears, front gears, master install kit, Auburn LSD, fluids & labor. Also included was a free check and lube change at 500 miles. This was about 2 years ago. You can try there, Moe's Performance, Air Ram or Randy's Ring & Pinion for prices.
This is something you are going to be better off not only leaving to someone else, but also finding someone with specific experience in gears installs. To date, this is the only mod I've not done on my truck myself and I wouldn't even contemplate trying it...
