Default K&N Air Filter

I was going to get a K&N filter (the one that fits in the stock unit) and was wondering if it is a good idea or just a waste. I don't really have the time or $ at this time to get an Air intake kit. They say they add hp do they? And better gas mileage?

I use the drop in in all my cars and have been happy with them for many years now. Well worth it in my opinion.

You're not going to see any added power or mileage with a simple drop-in, however it is a lifetime filter, no more being hassled to change your filter everytime you get your oil changed...

Not worth it, IMO. You can buy a lot of paper filters for that kinda money. No change in performance or mileage without an intake and exhaust and even then, it won't be much.

I had a K&N drop in filter before I installed my CAI and I liked it. It didn't give the performance of the CAI but it was still better than a paper filter.

I had a 2000 Camaro before I got my Ram. I put a drop-in K&N filter in and I really did get 60-70 more miles out of a tank of gas. I can't really say the hp was improved, but I definitley got further on my gas dollar. I'm going to get the whole system for my truck, because I need all the help I can get with fuel economy,

I had the drop in before and couldn't tell a difference.. I recently got the intake system and you can tell a difference, at least i could at the pump.. If you can't afford an intake kit, check on ebay. There are some aftermarket kits that still use the same K&N filter but for alot less money...

There are also always used name brand CAI systems on ebay as well if that is what you are looking for. I got my entire Airaid CAI for $50.
