Default plugged cat, o2 sensor, or fuel injector pls help

Please help me. I havent had my truck long. Its a 02 1500 with a 5.9l 360.
It had a check engine light on when I bought it. The dealer was suppose to
fix it, but Im losing patience and ready to fix my truck and make it reliable.

Its throwing a p0306 code. (cylinder #6 misfire)
Ive replaced the cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs. The plugs themselves
looked fine but the cap and some of the plug wires were getting pretty corroded.
So I thought that would solve my problem, but it didnt.

The problem is being tempermental. The truck will idle down to about 400 rpms
and start running rough. If I gas it it usualy picks up in the higher rpm ranges.
I've noticed the rotten egg smell a little after WOT.

Is there a way to check
The cat, o2 sensors, or injector with out just replacing them? I plan on changing the
cat out monday if theres no way to check it.

How many miles on her?

If you bang your fist on the cat, it should not have any rattle sound from the inside, try that.

Sulfur smell means its running rich and the cat is burning it off.

You didn't say anything about any other codes like 02 sensors, so they are probably OK.

its got 90,000 miles on it. I thumped on the cat and it feels pretty solid. no rattles.

It had some code for pinched hoses? or something. But the code didnt stay on. I only sawit once. And I searched from top to bottom for
hoses and found nothing.

Anyone know how much a new cat converter goes for with install?

I'm not very fimiliar with the 5.9....but by the way from your previous few posts i'm guessing there's only one cat and the 5.9 is port injected. Usually a bad/plugged cat will throw a DTC P code for low efficency...like p0420 or p0430. The injector is a possibility but make sure you're getting spark on #6...pull the plug wire off, ground it with a screw driver and see if it sparks.

Is everything else fine...no white smoke out the pipeor milky oil?

EDIT: For the o2, if they're lazy/slow in switching they'll usually throw a code also. You can try cleaning the pre-cat o2 to get the carbon build-up off...you could also swap the pre and post cat o2's and see if that clears it up.

My '96 5.9l needed a new fuel rail, injector cleaning, and....NEW FUEL FILTER....that was the source of my problem. Total was a bit over a grand, if you just need the filter, should be around $400.

Edit: I had misfires on 5 and 6, and severe stuttering around 40-45mph under light acceleration (that was the fuel rail leaking all over my engine)

One thought. Would a spark plug not sparking at all be very noticable?

1 more thing. When I got new spark plug wires, it came with one extra wire that im not sure what its for. Its 2ish feet long with no 90s, just straight.

Do you know how the check a spark plug to see if its firing? if so check them. I was always told the extra wire is a spare, just incase one of the other wires goes bad or something else happens.

I think I can check them firing. I dont know how I'll tell if its firing as much as its suppose to though.
And I think the fuel filter is in the gas tank. So 400 labor might be in the ball park. When I change mine I'll be putting an inline on for sure.
