Sound when accelerating from a stop?
Hello folks, new member here. I bought a 2004 5.7 Liter Ram 1500 4x4 a few weeks ago. I love this truck!!! Unfortunately, I'm getting a sound when I accelerate from a dead stop. It sounds like a rubbing/vibration/grinding sound, but only lasts for a couple seconds then goes away. Itdoesn't happen every time, which is kind of strange. It feels like the sound is coming right underneath the front floor board. Anyone ever have this happen to them or heard about a similar problem? By the way, this Dodge truck is awesome. I've owned a Chevy Silverado and Toyota Tacoma, and this beast puts them to shame!
How many miles? Maybe a u-joint is going away. Wiggle up under it and see how much the front driveshaft moves if you twist it with your hands. Does it have LSD? The LSD rear ends will shudder a bit when accelerating.
Splinter,
Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the exact same problem. It sounds like someone blowing across a bottle....Or a really loud and deep owl hoot. I think this is the same issue.

One of the things you may want to do is pull off your tranny pan and see if there is metal shavings in the pan, if there are you have some major issues and I would take it back to the dealership QUICKLY!!!!! If not then just change out the fluid with some better high qualty synthic fluid and you can more than likely get rid of the sound that way.
I've got the same problem on my brand new truck....I actually noticed it doing it some on the way home from work tonight...good comparison to the "blowing on a bottle" deep humming noise. Performance does not seem to be effected though and it does not happen all the time....usually just when I'm steadily rolling at around 2k RPM's.....comes and goes. You guys let me know if you happen across a definitive answer here.....still love the truck though. thanks all.

I have the same "bottle" noise at about 2k rpm on my wifes 07 hemi Aspen. Dealer heard it, said normal drive line noise. Only around that rpm though, not at higher or lower rpms. Slightly accelerate = bottle noise. Foot off the pedal =noise is gone.
