Default Error code P0406

Hello I have a 04 ram 1500 5.7 with a error code P0406 which is a EGR issue what most likely is the fix ?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

before doing anything with it, i would try resetting the CEL and see if it comes back on. my cel popped on the 06 hemi last weekend and i got the "malfunctioning egr" code. i reset it and it hasnt come back on yet..tonight ill take it on a long ride and see if it comes back on. the egr looks easy as hell to change..right up front, top of the motor.

I have my own code reader and used it to reset the code to see if my ride really thought it was broke. The check engine light came back on within 10 miles of driving. I reconnected the reader and got the same P-0406 code. I take that as gospel to replace the EGR now hehe.

yea...I'd check out rockauto.com for a new one. It's hard to find one in advance/auto zone and then ur stuck with buying from the stealership

My thread still has pics in it. Should give you an idea. Also searching the website with "P0406" in the search box should pull up many more threads. Hope this helps! Also remember, my thread is only valid on the 5.7 engines. the 3.7 and 4.7 engines have different locations than the 5.7.
