Everyone idle high at startup?
First, let me say I was always a Ford guy until this 07 Dodge I bought new at the end of last year. Big horn 4x4 quad cab with the 5.7 hemi etc... Anyways, it drives me up the walll that every time I start it, it idles at about 1500 and takes forever to come down. I can un derstand when cold, but when its 95 outside, its been drivin many miles, shut it off for a second, then start it up to leave or move it....theres the high idle again. Do they all do this or do I have something wrong? Thanks!
Mine does the same thing, it's an '08. My '05 did it on occasion. My fuel-injected Harley does the same thing. High idle is needed to get the oil flowing. Most people don't warm up their vehicles anymore, start it and go. Can damage the motor until the oil gets circulated. Just my opinion.

Could be a number of things, a worn throttle position sensor is the first that pops to mind. My truck idles at 900rpm for the first 15-20 seconds after a cold start. Never had it idle that high though. If I were I'd take it to have it looked at, could be a precursor to a more serious problem.

My '07 4.7l does it too. It will idle around 1500 for a few seconds, then it will start to go down in 100 RPM incriments each second or so until it reaches normal idle speed. No matter the temperature, no matter how long it's been running prior to re cranking. One of the numerous problems I need to have the dealer address next visit.
Ok....The word forever isnt actual... but it does take what seems to be a long time to come down. I will time it and see. The truck only has 4500 miles on it, and with being new to dodge, was just wondering. Will take it in and see what the dealer says. Was curious as to whether anyone else experiences this or if its a normal thing on a dodge...
